There is an vintage synth vibe going on here that if implemented wrong could have been unpleasant. That is not the case with your song. This is great. Its a wonderful evolving flow with just the right amount of mounting intensity.

it stems from listening to Tangerine Dream when I was about 13

Ah! A fellow TD fan

I must admit, I do not listen to their stuff that much any more, and if I do, it's more than likely going to be Rubycon or Phaedra.

Thanks for listening to M81 James, I really appreciate that

Really enjoyed this track. Love the way it's always evolving throughout and never feels like a copy/paste add a part construction (I'm totally guilty of that all the time!!)

Would be interested to know how you keep that kind of movement and change going through the drum tracks as that was one of the things that struck me when I listened.

Oh yeah...... I've been working on 5 songs almost simultaneously.

Not my genre but I will say the mix captured me.

Hi Andy, well, i'm going to join the lovers of this track too. It moves along nicely, I have played it twice so far. Not too much, or too little instrumentation. It plays extremely well balanced on my studio KRK Rokit's, and also translates well on a pair of my Audio Technica ATH-M50's. The kick drum is never lost, or overpowering either, so I have to say, it is a very professional sounding mix, congratulations !

As for musical feel, well, and I hope I am not slated by you for this, but it has a 'feel' of Jean Michel-Jarre, certainly in tempo, but also arp pattern feel, but with instruments of ever so slightly different timbre and therefore time and place. However, I could honestly say that if I was given this to listen to, and told it was a JMJ track previously unreleased, then I would not have had any problem believing it to be true.

Thanks very much, very inspiring.

Well... Same here really...

I cut and paste stuff around and then go back and change bits here and there. Add/delete notes... Change velocities... And I'm always adding automation in order to keep things moving nowadays... It's the only way that I can keep my electronic stuff even slightly interesting

Ah... Yeah, I'm glad you noticed that Chris.

I spent a lot of time on the drums... They kick in quite early, for one of my longer pieces, and carry on almost to the end, and although there is a general pattern for the kick and snare, it does change ever so slightly, to get a little busier in each part.

I think the addition of the cymbals certainly helped and I'm glad I added them. As we said above, we cut and paste, but I always try to make it sound as though part have been "improvised," even though much of my work is programmed. I do play the odd lead part and record as MIDI, so that I can "fix" things, as I did for my Nessus tune.

Thanks again for listening Chris
