I'm used to projects taking ages to load in SONAR. I always have an instance of Kontakt loaded plus Trilian bass and Superior drums - so load a project and go make some coffee ;-)

Anyone tried a "batch resave" ? Does it really speed things up? I found this when searching ... but don't have problems with missing samples, just load time could be faster ...

Batch re-saving is pretty much necessary if you want to load anything quickly.  It's pretty painless to do, or at least it was.  It makes a big difference on load times for a lot of non-player 3rd party libraries.  This new version of Kontakt is so awful though, I wouldn't be surprised if they changed things for batch re-saving too.

I also updated to Native Access to get this new Kontakt and to say I'm unhappy is an understatement.  Native Access deleted my copy of The Gentleman content and in order to get it back (without digging out my U10 Hard Drive) required I delete a bunch of registry entries by hand since even the running the Windows uninstaller wouldn't convince Native Access it should offer it for re-installation/download.  Half the time when starting NA it would spin for a long time show me my products for a second and then all the products would "vanish" from the list.  Sometimes the refresh would bring them back, but not often.

Just tried batch re-saving one of the new Sample Logic libraries I bought and it worked just fine, so that's a relief.  I do recommend doing the batch re-save in the stand alone Kontakt with no instruments loaded, just use the file menu option (and don't panic about the warning dialog it puts up).

I just did a batch re-save for Kirk Hunter Concert Strings this morning. I'd done that on the old DAW but couldn't remember how much it helped, only that it did. So this time I did a before-and-after benchmark.

I have a large multi consisting of 6 string sections (1st and 2nd violins, 1st and 2nd violas, cellos and basses) that I loaded into standalone Kontakt. Prior to the re-save, it took about 5 minutes to fully load (meaning when the Memory usage display stops incrementing). I then rebooted the machine to eliminate the effects of caching and loaded the nkm again. This time it took 3 minutes to fully load. Still a monster, but that's a significant improvement.

(Note that you have to expand each instrument's UI in order to know when loading actually completes. The hourglass goes away and UI controls come to life after only 6 seconds, but with background loading enabled, samples are still being read.)

so is the "batch resave" more a 3rd party library fix or does it also help with K10u libs (i.e. is this a defrag type of physical action or is it something like a better a indexing/assembly of non-stock libs which does not apply to something from the original vendor)?

I have always used Service Center for all my NI updates - by 'Native Access' do you mean finding and installing the update from my NI account on their website from a browser? Not near my DAW right now to investigate.

Native Access is the new download manager from NI...Generally, msorrals problems not withstanding, it has been well received and to me it is far superior to the old Service Center.  I'd recommend downloading it and use it going forward... I routinely had issues with the SC and NA has been a pleasure to use for me and many out there.

I thought the last update had not caused me any issues but this morming Kontakt is not (or taking for ever) to load Embertone's mountain dulcimer which I have just purchased.

5.6 seemed to speed up loading for me, but 5.6.1 might be an issue.

Batch re-save does help the native/full libraries as well, some more than others.  The more complex/slower loading the library the more it seems to help.

Yep somthing going on here.

Embertone Mountain Dulcimer is experiencing excessive load times in Kontakt 5.6.1. I do think this is probably an NI issue rather than an Embertone one. Resaving the instrument (just the NKI) in Kontakt has not helped. I also resaved a second copy including the samples with no improvment. Very frustrating!

I mentioned this in another thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3499164 but thought it appropriate here as its probably related to what others are seeing.

It seems some, but not all of my third party Kontakt libraries are also affected.

I have opened support tickets with Embertone and NI (sweekstake on who will reply first ) and posted on the NI forum.
