Double-click to enter a note in the PRV. This video goes into detail about using the PRV with Session Drummer.

With the inline PRV, a drum map must be used to display drum names in the MIDI scale

hi again scook.sorry about this,I'm not an expert on this program...i'll try to explain what's happening. I 'm using sonar 8.5 I've started a new track with session drummer 3. I open up a drum map...Yamaha Birch Kit. I arm the track. Then i click on the piano roll and that opens up. The drum names are on the left side,as they should be. But there is no pen to use ,,its just the normal pointer/arrow...i right click in the piano roll and a menu appears.first on the list is PRV tool.when i click on that i can only use select. Draw and erase are shaded and can't be used. I tried double clicking anyway on the drum names and nothing happens. clicking on a drum name gives the sound only of the drum. and in the track view i don't know how to get the drum names up on the left hand side like in the video link u sent. I clicked on the PRV mode icon in the track, and what appears like a piano roll appears, only it doesn't look like the other piano . But i do have the penpointer,,but no drum names. any idea what i'm doing wrong?? any help would be great,,thanks again/Ray

If you are using a drum map, you need to enter notes in the Drum Grid pane instead of the Note pane in the PRV. It may be necessary to grab the top of the Note pane and drag down to see the Drum Grid Pane. If you want to use the Note pane to enter data, don't use a drum map. Then note entry is the same as any other synth. IIRC, tutorial #4 covers manual MIDI data entry.

It seems your in some weird mode because the tools are always there for me in the piano view of a midi track.. I must admit I've never opened a blank midi track, I always record something there first. Or I've imported the tracks.
He's what I do maybe it will help.
Insert Soft synth-Session drummer-open the GUI and select a kit. test kit with GUI and mouse.
Insert a MIDI track and set output to Session drummer.
Record the drum part with a controller.
Edit drum part in piano view.
During editing I will use the select pointer to move notes
The erase tool to delete
The draw tool to change values or add new notes.
