when I used session drummer and session strings and bass guitar it seems like I can hear just that when I export the song. I have 3 other tracks that have loops on them however I don't hear them its like there missing and someone wont record.

What I don't seem to be hearing are the 3 tracks that had loops on them all I seem to hear is the data I recorded with session drummer and session strings and bass guitar which in sonar shows a keyboard like sign and the other tracks that I don't seem to be hearing show a midi port looking sign. isn't there a way to get all samples and live drums all into one happy medium

It's a little hard to follow your description.
The tracks with the MIDI-plug icon are MIDI-tracks. Are you using audio or MIDI-loops? If the loops are MIDI, you need to insert a soft synth in order to hear them, if they are audio, you need to put them on an audio track.

The tracks with the keyboard-icon are soft synths' audio output tracks.

PS. This is the wrong forum ;o)

yeah one is a piano riff  in midi and the other isa old tr sounding drum riff both are midi.

when I dragged the files into the project they each  created a midi track
so ya id say there midi and  the other drum riff I created live using the si drum kits.

so are you saying that I would have to load something like true pianos and si drummer and insert the audio files on those tracks to get the midi sample riffs to playback as audio somehow??

You need to Insert soft synth in order to hear the instrument sounds. Then you record or drag the MIDI to the MIDI track that is automatically created. You don't insert audio-files anywhere if you're using MIDI with VSTs.
The MIDI-track triggers the VST.
There's a tutorial about using soft synths (#4 ??), and it's relatively clearly explained in the manual.

that's not what im saying what im saying is that half the tracks in the project appear missing I cant seem to hear them when I try to export to mp3 like I normally would.

all im hearing after export is in windows media player say is the vsts I recorded live the rest of the data is missing you know the other tracks which are not vsts they were loop files that are in midi.

what im saying is only the soft synths are playing back the other tracks are missing
and don't you mean the vst triggers midi data to be recorded

I try to export the whole project meaning all the tracks to create the beat and the final mix when I play back im not hearin the loops just vst output

But if the loops are MIDI, as you clearly say, you must have a VST soft synth to play them! Loop or not loop, MIDI has no sound, so you can not export it to audio without a soft synth!
If you are using the integrated Wavetable Synth for those loops (which you should not IMO), that one can not be exported like normal VSTs.

Before you even attempt to play an exported Mp3 in Media Player, the first thing you should be doing is to export a wav of your song and check it inside sonar, within the same project.

Solo it and route it directly to your Main Outs, bypassing any Master Buss Fx, because you don't want the wav to be processed twice.

Once you're happy with the wav, use that for conversion to Mp3

BTW, this forum is for 8.5 & prior versions of Sonar, there is a separate forum for the X series

perhaps....

Can you hear the tracks OK in playback mode in their entirety?

If yes.... when you export them, you don't hear everything? correct?

The obvious thing is that you have not selected the entire track on every track. If you are using clips and loops, selecting the first one doesn't automatically select all of them in the track.... you must click a few times to select every clip in every track.... if you export it with clips NOT selected, you will not hear the entire track....

This has happened to me. Just delete that exported file and reselect ALL the clips in the tracks and export it again.

If that's not the issue.... ignore my comments.
