First, I searched to find out where the initial issue that causes this to go goofy if on. I didn't find anything blatantly obvious. I searched for '64bit precision' and I almost got a page full of hits.

What is the main reason(s) that 64 bit engine needs to be turned off, when was it identified and why don't the bakers consider this a hot issue to fix in a recent patch?

Isn't 64-bit processing the norm nowadays? Not only that but multi core processors too.

Don't confuse 64bit processing with the "64-bit double precision engine" option.  IIRC, disabling the "64-bit double precision engine" was first suggested as a temporary fix for noise introduced by the PC Console Emulation on mono tracks in X3c.

That makes sense. thx for the reply. It would sure be nice to have a 'known issues' DB the users can reference. But then, the competition would probably use it too.

Guitarmech,

I think we're all a little puzzled, but it's the known work-around at this time. It doesn't cost me anything to flip it off, so I barely know what I'm working around. I just flipped it off.

I'm pretty sure it'll be back on after the next release.

Cakewalk have stated time and time again that they will not release a list of known issues, that is their prerogative.  Asking for one is just flogging a dead horse.

As for the 64bit Double Precision Engine issue:-

Cakewalk were incredibly fast to react over this.  There were Cake staff posting and PM-ing  users for more information, and asking for project files that were affected, and analysing them.  Within minutes they narrowed it down to the 64bit DPE, and suggested turning it off whilst they worked out a solution.

I was flabbergasted at the speed with which they dealt with it.

Unchecking that one parameter solved everything, and I have no doubt that they are working on it now, and will solve it quickly.  It only seemed to affect the Console Emulator on mono interleave channels, and possibly the pop out QuadCurve EQ/Analyser.  I can't be sure of other issues, as I'd already "un-checked" it.

I think many people are confusing the 64bit DPE with 64 bit Operating System and 64 bit processing.
