*Disclaimer: I am not a MIDI guy, and I did do a peripheral lookup on this to no avail*

I am playing around with seeing if I can import midi files(specifically drum parts) in to X3. I have a file for a song off of midi robot.

I can load the file in to the program with the default program being the TTS-1, but get no audio (the meters are showing signal). My guess is because it is not triggering a sound (the tracks are separate by the standard guitar/bass/drums/vocals). SO that is my first issue.

Secondly, I created an Addictive Drums synth track (testing both MIDI rack and Simple instrument) and copied the drum parts over. I see meter, but visual on drum hits and no sound.

I also did the same with BFD Eco, and I can see the drum hits visually in the interface, but no meters and no sound on that one.  I played with the track setting for both and still don't get sound from anythng MIDI (but an audio track works).

Where do I start?

I had a similar question a few weeks ago about TTS-1. You will want to adjust your track views per this thread (the video insert), assign the MIDI out channels to the appropriate TTS-1 channel, and set the TTS-1 output to "Master." This is the same principle for all synths (they are MIDI "driven").

Quick Edit: Since you already have the MIDI tracks, when you insert the TTS-1 (simple instrument track), for each track set the "O" (output) to match the "C" (Channel) your MIDI track is assigned to... the TTS-1 should then populate accordingly.

If its a drum MIDI file when you bring it into Sonar be sure you select channel 10 for drums so it will be routed to channel 10 on the TTS-1. That is the drum channel on GM type synths. You will select the channel on the track inspector of the MIDI track.

Okay, so I can import it and then route through the TTS now (every instrument on the track). I get it, though I have no desire to use the TTS.

My goal now is to route the bass through Kontakt and drums through AD or BFD ECO.

I've only gotten to the drums before I gave up for the night, but AD I can rout and get sound, but it seems the maps to the snare and such are not right.... I can fix that most likely. BFD ECO shows the right instruments(and at one point it worked) and that they are playing, but no sound. So I know the rout is going to the ECO... but it won't for the life of me output the sound of it and I've tried almost every combo I can think of to no avail. I even blew away my aud.ini and made sure the sample rate was the same for every program at 48/24.

Like I said previously, I can set rout from an active drum track to BFD, but when I send from BFD... no sound at all.

I'll try again tomorrow.  Thanks so far guys!
