i suggest that fixing the forum search functionality would be a good thing

Ha - I was just scrolling down this thread on my phone and exactly the same thing popped into my head, and the next post I looked at was yours. Every technical forum should have a grade-A search function. It's absolutely vital. This forum doesn't. It was awful in the old version and not much better in the new one. I know we can search the forum via Google and get great results but it's a shame the forum search isn't so good.

If they can't do it any better than Google, then don't devote resources to it.

However, put a Google search box up with instructions on how to search the forum with it, that would be nice.

Search works very well for me, not sure what the issue is?
The forum software being used here is APG vNext Commercial and is on Version 4.3, see link at the bottom of the page.
Latest version is 4.5 as demo'd here: http://www.aspplayground.net/community/Forums.aspx

I'd like to know what's wrong with the search. Claiming we need to fix something with no context as usual isn't really helpful. :(

Yup a search for dead horse supplies 189 posts, works fine, I'm using Firefox 25 and Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 right now.

I was happy to see that filtering it further by "With Attachments" did NOT return any results :)

No thank god! Also searched for the term "arse" and this came up with 187 results with Android 4.3 and Google chrome.

ok, for example, i searched for "solved" and get: 200 threads since "the beginning", filtered to 134 threads in the last 2 years; if i change it search to 'actual posts' it returns no results, when obviously it should be far more - this is across all forums. it's also so slow i wonder if anything is happening (same cause as multiple posts perhaps?) in ff23 on win7. in ff on android i get the first 200 but no date filter options... (same for "arse") ... and posting this reply gives me "An unexpected error occurred and logged. Please try again later."...

And the only time I get double posts is when I'm on my phone. Win8phone

this thread is a perfect example of how some of us are a little confused about who owns this forum.
this is cakewalks forum and they can do what ever they want with it.
the days of telling someone: "too bad" or "deal with it". have become a thing of the past in fear of hurting someone's feelings.
cakewalk has been generous enough to give us this forum and make it feel as though its ours.
with that comes a price. users thinking it really does belongs to them.

I've never been on a forum anywhere as free and open as this one.
we should not take that for granted, though we often do.
