when the "lifetime" thing was announced, it was stated that such users would get free "core" updates indefinitely... there were questions on the forum about defining what "core" things might be, and so therefore what would be an "add on" at extra cost - but nothing was ever sold as "add on" and lifetimers just got everything for free after that - nothing was ever sold as an add-on
