Oooh, my book arrived today :-) The jolly chaps from the post office jammed it in my letter box in such a way that it was impossible to extract without pulling the Amazon box apart inside the letter box. Took me a good 5 minutes in order to make sure I didn't damage the book, the letterbox or myself! Was worried it's a bit thin, but then the page size is larger and a different ratio from the Sonar 6 book. So that's something else for bedtime reading, in addition to all those Game of Thrones novels... Cheers Scott, looking forward to this one!

Hi again Scott,

Thank you for the reply. I've already put your advice to good use!

In other news, I now own 3 copies of Sonar X2 Power! The hard copy arrived this afternoon. Yay! Yesterday, I paid for and downloaded the ebook for Nook, thinking I would use it on my iPad and/or my big computer, (which is what I have always done with larger format Nook books) since I knew the format wouldn't be appropriate to read on my small black-and-white Nook Touch.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Canadians can't download the Nook iPad app (it says, "You are in Canada and the Nook app isn't available at the Canadian store; we'll transfer you to the U.S. store" then it transfers you and says, "You cannot purchase items from the U.S. store, you need to transfer to the Canadian store" and it transfers you again. Also, "the book isn't available to be viewed on PC yet", so I'm out of luck.

Barnes and Noble answered my enquiry today, stating that since the book did successfully download to my little Nook (true enough), no refund can be given. Well, it makes sense. It would have been good to know that Canadians are not permitted to download the Nook app so they can view newer Nook books on iPad, though.

Anyway, this afternoon, I bought Sonar X2 Power! on iBooks and it works great. So that makes 3 copies for me - one hard copy for home, one e-book, and one Oops D'Oh! I know it's got nothing to do with you personally but I just want to say: Good thing you write such good books, Scott, or I'd be upset! ;)

Seriously, I just want to let other Canadians know that the Nook version may not be the way they want to go, not because of the book by any means, but because of the restrictions.

Looking forward to reading,
Laura

Hey Chris... Yikes! Glad to hear you didn't hurt yourself and the book wasn't damaged. The postal service likes to do that here in the USA too.

Yes, not to worry on the page count. The only reason its lower is because the size of the pages is larger. The book is still packed with a ton of great information.

I'm honored to be on your reading list right next to Game of Thrones. That's one of my favorite shows.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy the book!
Scott

Hey Laura... Wow! Thanks very much! I really appreciate it. Sorry to hear you had to go through that trouble though. It seems strange that you can't download the app. Must be some kind of Barnes & Noble policy or may some licensing restrictions that Apple placed on them. I really don't know.

The Kindle version should be available soon, so hopefully, that will solve the problem for Canadian readers. But everyone should know that yes, even though the eBook is in Nook or Kindle format, it can still be read on a variety of devices, including Mac and PC. Some people don't realize that, so I think I'll be a brief explanation up on my site.

Well, now I _really_ hope that you enjoy the book! Thanks!

I've never owned one of Scott's Power books (though I've owned several versions of Cakewalk software over the years), but this time around, largely based on everyone's rave reviews of the books, I'm considering opting for a copy.

But how does the information in Scott's books differ from that which is in the program's user manual? Do the Power books just put everything into a more practical, example-driven form?

And does the book go into the VSTs like Dimension Pro, Rapture, etc. at all? Because that is an area where I'm really lacking in knowledge and hardly know where to begin with all the buttons, knobs, and other such doodads.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Hey Kyle... cool, I hope you decide to get the book. SONAR X2 Power! is designed to compliment (not take the place of) the manual. It walks you through the application from beginning to end (whereas the manual is better used as a reference). The book can be used as a reference as well, but I always recommend reading it cover-to-cover at least once. I've also filled it with tips and techniques that I've learned over the years, that you won't find in the manual. And yes, there's an entire chapter dedicated to the synths and another entire chapter dedicated to the FX, and it talks about all the plug-ins included.

Thanks!

Hey Bram... I'm assuming you're talking about Amazon.ca, right? The book only just became available outside the US, which is why it wasn't shipped back in Dec. May 4th sounds about right from what I've been hearing from others. I would contact Amazon customer service to see what they say... let me know.

Thanks!
