Hi Guys , I'm just an amateur Sonar user , the way I work is as follows.
I record the band practice through the Roland octacapture (2 guitars , bass , eDrums, 2 vocals) all into one project file" [band name] [date] . Later I split the file into individual songs.
This is just to aid song development and for practicing songs , I just apply standard EQ and some effects and mix down for the band to listen to only.
I set up a new folder for Sonar X3 data with a created subfolder for audio . I noticed that there are Auto save copy files , but also files of an unknown type with a name
[song name.cwp~2013-11-11-20-04-59-333] the file type appears to be the part after the ~
Not sure what these files are of if I should delete them , is it also OK to delete the auto saves?

One other question (sorry for going on) I use the VX-64 vocal strip , the defaults I use and ones I create seem to vary in each use, For example I save a setting for my voice , but next time I try to use it it's not in the list then next time it is . Do you know where these files are stored? I have tried deleting the plug in and re-adding it.

I'm not sure if these are new problems introduced with X3 or not.

Regards

Eric

Hi Eric

Please search your hard drive for VX64_VocalStrip_64.DLL

Sidestep  when it comes to deleting files etc....

One of the things I've been asking for in Sonar. Decent file management and backups....

I need to be able to rename a project for instance and then all the related files (e.g. wav files) get renamed accordingly so I'm not hunting around.
I need to be able to backup projects and all folder and files, associated, and be able to roll back at will on my local hard drive, USB or firewire drive, or network drive or USB key.

Real archiving, version control, backup and rollback!

Nearest we get to that is Gobbler but I don't need a third party service, I already have enough storage which I can locate from anywhere in the world.
Please Cake throw this into X4!

(BTW bundle files don't have a solid reputation for stability - it would be nice if that were put to bed as a myth or not).

Moving on then... :)

Cheers...

To the OP,
Sounds like you have versioning on. Sonar makes new versions of each project at present intervals.

If you delete and reinstall a plugin your presets will be lost.

Thanks Alex , I looked at my older Sonar X2 data.  I had and the "rogue" files were there also , so not new with X3 , I think I'll just leave them alone , they clutter up the folder but probably best leave alone as you suggest.

As per the other reply I have turned off versioning so this may help

VX64 - I re saved the pre-sets where they were used and they now seem OK , also found the detailed manual in the area you suggested I search , so all good!

Thanks

Eric (maybe I'm looking closer for problems because it's a new version!)

Turned off versioning thanks , didn't think I had it on as I tend to use file names 1.0 1.1 etc..
Also looking through the forum I turned 64bit double precision engine off and set buffers to 512.
Thanks to everyone for your help.
