X3 Producer, FW-1884,  audio is good when using 96/24 but midi distorts any suggestions ?
midi plays undistorted only in 48/24 mode. I run Windows 7, ASIO driver.
The only solution I thought of is to work up my midi in this configuration, convert to audio,
export and reimport in a new project in 96/24 mode unless someone has a solution.

I have an XPS DELL i7, 64 bit pc

I would suggest looking into preferences->midi:playback and recording. Make sure you have the midi buffer size set to at least 500 milliseconds - that seems to be the consensus around here to avoid midi dropouts. Since your audio's working good (glad to hear that), you should be good to go.

well I tried the 500 milliseconds but that did not fix the problem, and found no equivalent problem on
the links that cakealexs gave me either. I guess I will call Tascam tomorrow and see if they have any
input

Not sure I understand MIDI distorting but I guess you mean when you process MIDI through a plugin synth then the sound is distorted. Though that makes your first statement a bit confusing because you say that 96/24 sounds good but MIDI distorts. Is this audio that you've recorded before at 97/24 that you then play along with MIDI through a plugin and then that sound is distorted?

Sounds more like latency is your issue. Try upping your buffers. Did it used to work and now not or is this a long standing problem. Or what.

Yes Mudgel, its when I am playing a midi project that I then assign to Cakewalk-TTS1 for example.
I just did some more experimenting and found that it is only the Direct X soft synth plug ins that sound
distorted, the VST ones are ok. So I wonder how to fix that?

I'm not sure where to go from here.

Hang on a bit, I'm sure that others with greater expertise will come along over the next little while and help you out. You could put a call into Cakewalk tech support. They're a very helpful bunch of people.
