  • SOLVED: WAVES plugs GUI not showing if more than 20 instances inserted

This is an issue I just resolved with WAVES support (who is super-responsive via email BTW) and I thought I should post this to add it to the searchable wisdom of this forum.

When inserting more than 20 instances of the same WAVES plug (e.g. NLS which you should insert on every channel and is IMHO a simple plug with an incredible impact on mix definition and depth) it could happen that the GUI of the plug remains empty (i.e. is not being drawn). Saving and opening the project fixed that, but every additional NLS instance on a new channel had the same problem.

Here's the reply from WAVES TS, explaining the fix "I see now that you have activated your licenses on a USB flash drive. This is why you couldn't find the Waves Audio folder in C:\ProgramData\. Please create this folder and place “no_context_sharing.txt” in it. If this doesn’t solve this issue, please make sure that you have the latest driver for your Graphic adapter installed."

And placing an empty text file named “no_context_sharing.txt” in that directory really fixed it ...

Just in case anyone else sees this

<<BTW, this happened on my backup system and has nothing to do with other recent posts trying to troubleshoot crashing / corrupted Sonar projects >>

Huh weird! Really good to know, thanks! I use quite a bunch of Waves stuff and have a USB based license too. So I create a directory called "Waves Audio" in the ProgramData folder (not Program Files?) and then create a text file called "no_context_sharing.txt" in it to be on the safe side?

From a Japanese link to Russian post - Waves, OpenGL, and Intel graphics come up... ring any bells here?

(Yeah, I was that bored...)

And we wonder why there are 'issues' with plugins.  What a weird thing to have to do to fix something.

I wouldn't change anything unless you run into this situation that some WAVES plugs don't draw (AND you are certaing it's not a mix of VST2 and VST3) in your project. then come back here, read again and fix ...
