My clips headers are also black - just as they were in X2. But when I expand take lanes, the "pseudo-clip" in the main track DO have a blue header.I kind of like it this way (normal clip black header, "fake" clip blue header) I'm sure us folks who migrated settings from previous X2 installations are seeing lots of strange things color-wise. But the loss of clip background color control is particularly irksome.

Hmmm... I wonder if this us in response to requests to make the track different colored than the lanes... I for one constantly confuse them when I'm working fast...

Hmm . . . no, we're still not on the same page.
-Preferences | Colors did work in X2 for MIDI track background colors [see screen shot below]
-No, I did not migrate from a pre-X version of Sonar
-Yes - changing a series of clips is less than 14 steps - for one track, one time; but multiply that process by many MIDI tracks and many projects . . . well, you see what I mean. I'd rather set the options and not waste hundreds of clicks getting what I already have with X2.
[I don't mean to belabor the point, but this will mean A LOT of adjusting of MIDI tracks in X3]

Well, I'm not sure which "X2" you're using, but in my X2a the colors shown above are there... but do NOT work. You have to scroll further down to "Tracks x, xx, xx... Background" to change them, and then they change ALL track backgrounds.

I am told in X3 you have to use the Inspector "Track" menu to change them individually.

I tried the new color customization feature in X3 today and........yup, the X2 implementation was better (because I don't want to color-code track strips in TV but want to give different colors to MIDI clip foreground colors of different tracks).

It worked perfectly all right on my X2a. It was the Essential version.

AH! I have Producer, so there may be a difference between them. If we all disclose which version we're using it might clear up a lot of the confusion around here.

Or, as we say in LALA land: "What works for some may not work for all!"

Well I'm with pdarg - I've always changed my clip background colours (MIDI and audio) in X2 and X1. I've always done it in preferences - colors just like the picture a few posts up...

Guys, I still have Sonar X2 installed and I am able to adjust the background of the clips and export the file, then import into Sonar X3 and it works!

Sucks, but it works!
