  • Super Newbie here - using effects on an Audio track

I have so many questions...but let's start with using an Audio track and adding a global effect to the track.  I have an Audiobox USB and an electric guitar.  I plugged it all in and am trying to set it up on the default track 1, which is an audio track.  The good news is, I can hear the guitar through my headphones (plugged in to the back to the Audiobox).  When I strum the guitar, the line levels on the track and master all jump.  I tried to insert an effect  (FX Chain - Burning Lead).  It pops up, and the levels on the input and output of the FX Chain box both bounce as well.  The problem is, I can't hear the effect.  I know I'm not "routing" something correctly, but I've been pushing this and that and reading the help for over an hour.  Any suggestions?  I didn't have this problem with adding a MIDI effect to a VST synth.  I just clicked it, it inserted, and bam, it worked....

If you're going to help, it needs to be pretty much "click this, click that" type, because I'm just learning the ways of the Sonar X3...

Thank you in advance for suggestions!

Have you clicked on the input monitor button on the track?

You didn't mention that above.

I don't see a button called input monitor...what does it look like?  Is it near the Solo/Arm/etc buttons?

I have X3 Studio...

If that is the same as the input Echo button, then yes, I have that on.

Is the Mixer knob on the Audiobox set to playback?

Welcome to the forum! As far as resources for learning, this is the best (for me) by far.

I am pretty sure that the Reference Guide is not included in the X3 installation files but can be downloaded here. The first several chapters are "Tutorials" and taking the time to walk through them will help you learn a lot (the views, where buttons are, what they do, etc.) It is a fairly large pdf, but is searchable, so once you know what you are looking for, things become easier to find quickly. (The tutorials start on page 99)
