Which version? I have seen a few threads where folks needed to re-scan plugs after updating to X3c... Try a manual scan (in Preferences) on them and check "Rescan existing plug-ins" and "Rescan failed plug-ins" before the scan. See if that finds them for you.

could it be related to your post in the general forum?

The other thread is here for reference http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2927995

I definitely have to let someone who has Waves step in. There is a lot in the forum on Waves plugs, and I do not own them.

Could it be related to my post about exporting audio? I guess it could but who knows. I wasn't able to work that issue out either. Mettelus, I will try that now. My version is X2a on windows 7 64 bit.

Tried running the scan. no go. As a matter of fact it happened in another project as well.
Next question. I guess I'm going to insert new soft synths find a patch that was close and drag in the recorded midi notes. I'm about one more disaster away from abandoning sonar. I miss sonar 6. That **** was way more stable.

Through the course of the X3 launch we've had to make several changes to the VST scanner to help with 3rd partly VST3's not getting scanned properly. Some of these changes have made it necessary for some users to reset and rescan their plug-ins. Try going to Preferences | VST Settings, uncheck Rescan Existing and Rescan Failed, set the scanner mode to Auto and press the reset button. Once the VST scanner has done a complete rescan try loading up some of the synths in a blank project. If all is good try to load the project in question and see if the synths are being loaded correctly.

There may well be something going on with the massive changes to the Plugin Manager for X3.

I have a bizarre plugin situation, where I am able to see a particular 32-bit synth in the drop-down list for inserting a soft synth into the synth rack, but when I go to the Plugin Manager to look for its properties, I cannot see it anywhere in Plugin Manager.

So, how is it that I can use it, but the plugin manager doesn't display it?

Edited to remove request for Cakewalk input to the thread, since they posted while I was typing in my original post here. :)

Thanks,

The OP is apparently using X2a, so the scanner changes in X3 shouldn't be a factor (assuming he's not also running that!)

Yes I am using X2a except, after spending an hour on the phone with Tec support yesterday and he couldnt figure out why none of the VST plugs that come bundled with Sonar are showing up. He suggested a fresh install of Sonar :( I did that..............twice now and the problem is still there. Just for ****s and giggles I installed a free voxengo plugin to see if it would scan and use it just fine and it does.
I guess it's back on the phone later today when they open at 1:00pm.

FYI, my DAW computer is new and has only ever been connected to the internet except to register cakewalk and sony vegas. NO porn, no downloads no nothing like that. I appreciate everybody's help and suggestion and even appreciate the guy who tried to hijack the post. cuz all of if could be useful, that is if sonar wasn't so god damn buggy. The only thing keeping me from changing DAW's is 12 years of history.
But Sonar I want to say **** you! I love/hate you.

Side note: I will update after I speak with customer service later today. Oh, I do want to say that cakewalk customer service is extremely helpful and always available. That said, they have to be cuz the product is stupid buggy.
