Side note: I will update after I speak with customer service later today. Oh, I do want to say that cakewalk customer service is extremely helpful and always available. That said, they have to be cuz the product is stupid buggy.

"Stupid buggy"?   No, at least not for most.  Particularly X2 and simply finding VSTs - that's been a bigger issue in X3 due to all the changes to accommodate VST3.

That said - have you checked that your VST folders are defined correctly in Preferences?  Reinstall and rescan wouldn't affect anything if the VSTs are not in a folder that SONAR is pointing to.   It's a long shot, but worth confirming.

@juicebass - what OS version are you running?  Also, there are Sonar dependencies on certain maintenance being present to run properly, and you indicated you only connected to the internet for registration of Sonar and Vegas.

To run anything beyond X2, you MUST have at a minimum Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 installed, and even for Windows 8 there are issues if maintenance is not up to current levels.

I would suggest you make sure you get your Windows Update maintenance all caught up, and then see how things run.

I believe that since there are not a lot of similar issues to yours being reported, that there is a chance that these issues are local to you - meaning something in your environment, and my bet would be that maintenance levels play a part in what you are experiencing.

Bob, thank you. That is actually the same advice that a friend of mine gave me. I am musically smart and can navigate Sonar with the best of them but when it comes to actual computer stuff. I'm an idiot. I was told by him and now by you that I need to keep the thing on the internet to receive all the updates and what not. I remember being to a while back to keep my DAW off the internet but I guess things change and bad advice is always a consideration. Anyway, I'm re-imaging my computer, re-installing sonar X2.

That being said, should I get the X2a update as well? I think "a" is for windows 8 support right?
should I do it for windows 7?

There exists a set of folks who connect to the internet only periodically, to get updates for Windows and other products, then they disconnect again, for some period of time, so you could do something like that.

Connecting to the web isn't really the issue, it's where you go on the web and how well you protect yourself that are determinant factors in the land of potential viruses.

My music computer is hooked up to the web, and I surf all over the web all the time.  I have decent antivirus software and keep both it and Windows up to date, and have no issues.

X2a, by the way, contains well over 250 fixes, among whatever functionality that they included, as well.

I believe X2a to have been a good and stable release on my system, for my work flow, and I recommend it.

^^^^  That'd be me as of last month.   I bought a USB wireless adapter for the XLN stuff, and it's worked out great.   Other than that and visiting here, I don't do much else online.   And I plan to keep it that way.
