Hi Bob...

Yes I agree with you completely... Their response was immediate and caring and I appreciate that very much too...

I'm sorry if I sound bitter at times, but it's not aimed at anyone... It's just my emotions boiling over during these times of great stress for me...

I hope I haven't offended anyone... If I did it was unintentional and I apologize profoundly...

Keni

Hey Keni, we're all fellow travelers on this path, don't be too hard on yourself. And while I agree it's great the Bakers came back with an immediate and caring response, also consider that they need feedback to improve a product. They may not always be able to implement someone's feedback, or they may find that fixing one problem causes another, but all these data points are helpful for them to prioritize where to allocate their resources in terms of satisfying the needs of a diverse clientele.

Part of Sonar's "problem" is that it handles so many different tasks elegantly that people use it in a lot of different ways, and therefore have different needs they'd like to see implemented. It's all good.

I agree with Keni that there should be no limit in the maximum zoom for lanes.  To be honest, I have never quite understood why a limit was imposed in the first place.  I'd love to hear the rationale for this design choice.

Thanks Craig...

I fully agree with you but I worry that I may sometimes offend someone with my zeal...

I have been with cakewalk since the first year that Greg stood at his little table at an AES show personally showing 12 Tones Cakewalk! I have watched the miraculous development of this fine software line with many personnel changes, yet the same devotion to making the best they can for themselves as well as the rest of us (they're musicians too, eh?)...

...and I have a lot of faith in them. The last couple of years has been a big strain on all of us in many ways and communication between Cakewalk and the public felt at an all time low... Until the recent news re: Gibson and the release of X3...

I hope the promise of a better future is coming all our way... In the real world as well as the virtual! ;-)

Thanks again for the support. I hope others feel as you do...

@keni - no sweat - your bitterness doesn't really come through :)  hee hee

I hadn't taken your comments as being bitter - couldn't resist the above, though.

I know you are a long-timer.  Few people know that your profile caricature is actually your real photo....(I won't tell)

Just to chime in, I would also love to be able to full screen zoom on one or two lanes. Perhaps there could be a solution like with the dock (D, SHIFT+D) to switch between "all takes" or "selected take" easily? I can see why it is useful to get a nice overview of what's going on in the track, but for precise editing it can be quite frustrating

Thanks Bob...

I'm really not bitter at all... Just old, frustrated, and determined... ;-)

The Bakers have always done a great job... Even when I am not in agreement with a decision...

The change to X1 really put me through a ringer... Not so much the UI, but the setback in so many little things that nag at me constantly remembering the comfort of 8.5.3.... I'm OK with X as the basics are mostly the same... Look and feel (where to find things)... They've added more shortcuts .... That's good too... And the ProChannel with its fab devices is a much nicer way to work for me... I know the Bakers put a lot of hard work into all this.... And I hope they know and understand how deeply I appreciate it. I have very little life outside of Sonar! ;-)

My avatar? :-)

Wait till they see the new one coming later this month... The current one was my album cover from 2009's Out Of My Mind... The new one is the cover of the new album (first public mention of the title) Anybody Listening?............ Release date is slated for 11/23/13 if I can come up with the last cash needed (2 more copyrights and CDBaby's submission fee)..... It's gonna be close! ;-)

Thanks everyone... And now back to the point of the thread.... Gotta go work with Sonar!

Keni...... Zoom, zoom, zoom.........!

HA~

I'm having this trouble of lanes editing.

So I decided not to using the multi take funticion. becuase I can't see only one lane for editing.

But Now I got strange problem here:

I used to use "Z" with cursor select to zoom in the take and edit it.
But. I don't know what I did. Maybe my cat step some keys....

Now after I use Z+cursor to zoom in some area, it jumps to the takes below what I selected. And not the size I want. I have to scroll up a little to see the area I need.

BUT! I open another project, there is no problem....
I just want to know what I did????

After thinking about this... what if they were to give us the option of displaying a specific lane when "Lanes" are turned off and all you see is the main track?
The main track can be zoomed full size so whichever lane is dominant will be also.
If you could select a particular lane to be dominant then you could easily switch through them as you worked.

This could be done with a group of buttons on the main track pane, a drop-down menu button, or a right-click menu.

Interesting idea Steve...

But I often need to see two or three Lanes out of 12 or 16... Maybe the ability to select/deselect view for each lane Mixed with lifting the max zoom limit? <sigh>

That would still leave me with the problem of them not getting small enough... I know they explain it's because they wish to maintain keeping info exposed, but I for one rarely need any of the Lane-Discreet-Controls such as the solo/mute (I opt to work directly with clips) and almost as rarely even bother with much text for discreet Lanes... Nice that it's there if/when it's needed but it's far too high a price for me as I need the zoom issues constantly...

Right now, I'd really benefit if there was simply some way to zoom lanes with a single command. Currently I'm forced to do horizontal and vertical zooms separately with increased mouse-across-screen activity as well as the extra clicks.... Very frustrating as it used to be so easy...

I'm willing to try any solution they offer as it's better than no attempted solution.
