My opinion of Tascam Is they are dated, joined the game way too late and like cakewalk, its only a matter of time.
Their customer support is horrendous. I've used Teac/Tascam Products for years.
Dating back to the 1980's and I still have most of the machines I've purchased.

However when I bought a Tascam Neo 2488 Digital 24 track recorder back in 2008 I was less than impressed.
I also couldn't get tech support on phone unless I waited in excess of 1 hour. By the time Tascam finally saw the digital Audio Workstation (DAW) revolution it was too late.  This was a company that was a front runner in bringing affordable multi track recording to the home hobbyist.

Their first releases of the Tascam US 1800 were riddled with bad inputs, loose connections, exc.
So they jump on the DAW train late and their first releases (the first popular ones) were half azz.
Total head scratcher.

Agreed, I'm still waiting for a Tech reply/help from them that I sent in 2011 .! lol

I didn't know about the bad batch of US-1800's, but I do have a large number of interfaces including Roland, PreSonus and Tascam and am in a position to compare them directly.

I find Tascam's preamps have the best low noise and overhead before clipping than all others.
They also have lowest problems with digital whine from ground loops.

In the Tascam range, I have the US-1641, US-1800, US-16x08, US-20x20, US-2x2 and the US-1x2.

I had to record straight off the head of a very old reel-to-reel tape recorder.
The US-2x2 was way better than any other interface I own.

@Craig Anderton - it's quite possible that 5 times more interfaces are sold than DAWs. I find I am reluctant to re-learn a new DAW once I have one I am familiar with. But I am always looking out for better performance and more inputs from an interface.

I've never gotten over them killing GS4.  I had it for a month after they dropped it.  I had a 822 PCI that was a great card until 64 bit arrive.

To me they are just another doorstop creator.

You aren't the only one!

Actually I was lucky in that I was about to pull the trigger on the GS3 to GS4 upgrade RIGHT before they pulled the plug on GS!

I still have GS3 that I invested a lot of money in (not as much as the folks who invested in GS4, I know) and I still am bitter about its demise at Tascam's hand.

TASCAM.

All my Tascam interfaces still work.

Heck, 4 years back I even got a maintenance kit of all rubber belts and rollers for my Tascam 244 4-track cassette!

I also stocked up on my Capstan belts for my Studio 8 / 424 / 488

The Tascam interfaces might still work but what about driver support ?

Tascam out of the blue updated the drivers for my us1641 back in Dec 2014 which was a suprise as the interface had been replaced and updated twice to the us1800 and the 16x04. The us 1641 was first introduced in 2007 so I certainly wasn't expecting this. I had shelved it out of frustration with the 2010 drivers and had bought my 6i6.
The new drivers have made what was once a door stop into an excellent interface, I find no differance between it and my Scarlett now. I have gotten more than my $200 worth out of it.  They then just released a driver last May for W10 thats 10 year after the fact!  so I'd say their driver support is beond expectations.

I have owned many Tascam products and the company is still in my good books.

I would guess few people buy a new interface every year.
