ok, I'm in a pickle. My PC crashed. I have all my recorded songs saved on ext HD using cakewalk. Files are in .cwp extension which is proprietary for Sonar. Now that they have quit, I need a version of cakewalk for MAC so I can open these and save them in wav files to use on something new. Please help! I did download the free mac version but it wouldnt open due to some glitch...

You could always install VirtualBox on your Mac and stick Windows 7 on a VM?

It won't be quick, but you'll at least be able to load your projects and save off your wav files.

In saying that, if you're using cwp format (as opposed to bundle files), the wav files will be stored separately anyhow - maybe you can just copying them directly out of the Audio sub directory?

Thanks for the response. Not exactly what I wanted, but could do the .wav file thing. I wish I could open them in cakewalk so they would be positioned in the track correctly.

Just bounce all your clips together so they all align correctly and drag them in to a new host.

Chuckebaby, that's EXACTLY what I would do if I had a version of cakewalk. As I said my pc crashed....fortunate for me I had all the songs on external drive...but no way to open the .cwp files so I could bounce them respectively. Thanks for thinking about it

You mean you have absolutely no access to another PC?  If all your doing is opening and re saving the files so they can be transferred, the PC could be just about any quality. You can get one used for $50. You must still have your old PC keyboard, mouse and monitor..  Or I would go to a friends house. Do a bare bones install, do your transfers and delete Sonar.
What broke on the old PC?  second hand parts?? My local computer store has boxes full of junk the sell cheap. You might be able to fix your PC for $10-$50.

Or as said set up a VM in the MAc, not a good system for serious work bu certainly you don't need much just for opening and transfers.

Did you register?  I'm assuming you would have had to if you just bought it a few years ago. If you did you can download from your my Products page found at the top of this forum. But hurry the servers are on life support.

Sonar is no longer in business and connot be purchased.
And legally no body can sell you an old copy. The licence is for one time ownership.

How did you install it originally on the pc that crashed?
Has it crashed without hope of recovery?
