So I had a percussionist in the studio this morning, playing battery via pads.. about a dozen takes laying down a track for a song. I am left with a complete and total mess.

I wish to comp the takes to get the best take then go in to surgically fix whatevers left.. ie just like I would with audio..

So..
1. switch lanes from clip to notes to get an eyeball for comping (ie see the data just like with audio) and guess what?.. all take lanes except the last one have white midi data..almost impossible to see on the light grey background.

2. the track lane shows ALL the data from all the takes. So almost impossible to see how the track looks

before I submit a bug report, is anyone else seeing this?.. its pretty useless as is.

Comping mutes all but the last take. Muted MIDI shows up white in the PRV.

Thanks,

I am looking here at the track view.. only the last take is visible.. all other take lanes show midi data in white..mute or solo its the same.

comp'ing midi seems to be largely not possible with the combination of these two issues.

You'll want to be showing clips to comp, not Notes (a.k.a Inline PRV).  The comp tool is only available when clips are showing anyway. If you choose a good track color, notes should show up equally well in muted/active/selected clips. The default gray isn't so great for this.

Thanks for persisting Dave,

Here is a screenshot.. all in clips view, changing track colour does nothing to visibility of midi data and of course data from ALL takes are shown on the parent track..

Try right-clicking the scale section of each lane, and choosing Fit Content.

This reminds me I need to enter a Feature Request to allow fitting content in all lanes at once, and/or locking zoom levels together. Weirdness results in the comp track clip when zoom levels differ.
