what version of melodyne would be able to do this effect.

See http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=383

I think you would use pitch adjustment (Essential)
Modulation & Drift (Assistant)
Attack Speed (Editor)

So the short answer is Editor.

Is there a chance I can unwatch the linked video or will it always be a part of my memory?

Hi Grum,

Be nice, I wanted to know how to reproduce the effect and I did say it is random... Try this instead, it might unwind what you watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yReTfUQR3M

I don't think you would really "need" the attack speed. For starters, that's a rather unique feature of Melodyne, and based on the material I really doubt the producers of that Fin track used it. It was probably a simpler catch-all/ruin-all plug like Autotune. So in my mind, Assistant would do.

There's also actually a couple of free Autotune-style plugins that might be worth a try;

THANKS !!!   I was planning to get a frontal lobotomy, but I'll just watch that video instead.  You have saved me thousands of dollars.

There is.  If you buy X3, you get the basic Melodyne FOR FREE.  And Celemony were offering an upgrade to Editor for a very reasonable price.  I don't know if that offer is still available.
