Anyone have any experience recording with this pre? I used to use it when playing out for my acoustic guitar but I have never tried recording with it. In fact I was going through some older equipment in the closet and I came upon it. Any recording experience with this application? It worked great live, thanks.

I designed that preamp. It was actually a channel strip lifted out of a large console we used to manufacture. We took out the mic input transformer and added a mic level direct output but left everything else alone. You should find it clean and quiet for any type of musical instrument signal and IMHO the tone control with tunable low and high shelf plus tunable mid peak/dip is very musical.

Of course, I'm biased As always its best to try and listen for yourself.

Very cool Bill! I stand, (well, sit right now), humbled. Like I said, I used it live for years with my Guild acoustic and it always performed. I just wasn't sure if the design was geared soley for live application. In any case, it's going in the rack to use with my Taylor. I will let you know how it works out. I get the feeling I am going to be happy with it. Thanks,

I've had my SC40 since I was a teenager. (I'm 50yrs old now). Used it for everything. Love it. Quick question. Can I use it to re-amp recorded guitar track?
I was thinking... Line-level out from my audio interface, or mixer—into the effects return of the SC40—Low Level output of the SC40—into the guitar amp. Doable? In the past I've used direct boxes in reverse to re-amp guitars, but I don't have one now. I'd rather work with what I have, and not buy a direct box just for this use.
 
Any advise would be much appreciated.
