I am a relatively new user.  Just upgraded to X3.  Used X1 for simple piano MIDI.  Now using X3 to edit audio files for band.  I borrowed a copy of Scott Garrigus' "SONAR X1 POWER! The Comprehensive Guide".  Should I buy the same book, or should I get the X2 later book?  I understand the X3 book will not be available for a few months.  Thx.

X1 Power is still pretty valid but a lot of things, especially in regards to editing, changed in X2. However they have done a few more changes like the comping stuff for X3. Considering X1 didn't even have Take and Automation lanes yet I'd imagine X2 Power would get you closer to where you need to be with X3... but I haven't read X2 Power. Knowing Mr. Garrigus though I'm sure it is spot on.

Basically it seems to me the difference between X1 and X2 was more drastic than the difference between X2 and X3 and the difference between X1 and X3 is obviously even more significant. IMO X2 Power is probably your best bet if you can't wait for the new edition. Cheers.

Gary,

Scott's books are always very helpful, so worth the wait........

Meanwhile you may want to check out the videos from both Cakewalk and Groove3.

Yes he does. I was thinking those are sold through Groove3? Maybe I'm wrong, I didn't check.

Thank you and I do. The Sonar videos are produced by SWA and are available from the CW store or direct from the SWA website.

I got fbb's SWA videos on new features for X3 last week.
It's excellent. He packs a lot in. I pause the video after every few minutes to mentally consolidate before moving on, because he doesn't let any grass grow under his mouse!

I haven't seen FBB's clinic vids but if they are of the same quality as his Effects Workshop it will show you everything in extreme detail. Aren't those vids like 9 freaking hours? lol... I really should pick that up at some point.

Other vids to watch for are anything by Eli Kransberg on Sonar (groove3). He'll get you sorted nice and quick and seems to have an interesting take on the program. Lots of unique approaches. Not quite as thorough as Scott or Karl though. More of a "things you need to know to get goin" type thing.

Sorry Karl. I couldn't remember where your videos were marketed and I should have checked before typing!

I have your video for X2 and LOVE IT!! Great stuff. Planning to purchase the one you did for X3, but am having trouble with my internet computer: it won't up or download anything right now. Hell, I can't even watch a video on this thing! AND it's getting terribly s  l  o  w ....... Time to call tech service ......

Thanks for your support again Beepster. Yes the X2 video is nine hours and is as detailed as the FX video, perhaps even moreso. I'll let others judge the quality.

The X3 video is much shorter at around 2 hours. The subject coverage is as detailed as the X2 video but covers the X3 new features rather than the whole program.

No worries. Thanks for the support and hope once you've got it you enjoy the X3 video as much as the X2 one.
