I thought I posted on this.  Gettin' old, losin it.  I agree, there is nothing to be embarrased or apologetic for.  it's a cool track that will only improve with possibly some vocals.  I didn't get bored and that's big!

Sorry for the late reply... I've been so busy with non-musical stuff this afternoon...

Yea Andy, I really like where this is going. I'm thinking what you perceive as timing issues is actually natural human syncopation. With a more natural drum track, I think this will be super cool. Nice tone and style on display here used in a very musical way. Salute from a fellow PRS tickler.

Hi Grant,

Thanks for having a quick listen

I'd fixed most of the bad timing issues but felt that the ones that were left would pass scrutiny. I think you're right, in that once I get time, I'll go and humanise that drum track a bit, which is a long way off yet. The drums that are there at the moment was just for jamming to really.

Sounds like a good start the furry ears will be keeping there eyes pealed for the following developments.

Thank you my Furry Friend

You will be hearing about it here first, but you may be waiting a while

Just do it Andy, and I am here to help you any way I can, so if you need help with the guitar just ask.

Hiya Billy,

Thanks for you kind and encouraging words... You make a fine team leader . And friend...

Not a waste of your time, or ours!

Thanks Tom... More encouraging words

I know of S-Gear and it sounds like good stuff. I'll have another look and see what it is going to cost me to get into S-Gear.

I've also got TH-2, but I tend to go to just a couple of patches in GR-5... Especially for the 80's fuzz guitar...

Haha! Thanks Warren... That IS a good sign LOL!

I wasn't considering vocals to be honest, but that's only because I cannot sing for toffees

And so far, it's only two minutes long. So I was thinking that this would be at least 6 ~ 8 minutes long in the end...

Still early days

cheers again peeps,

Certainly nothing to be ashamed of Andy! A very promising start indeed which should pan out to be a nice track when its done.

Wasn't keen of the clean guitar sound near the beginning, but apart from that all is shaping up nicely. Look forward to hearing the end result

The idea of the clean guitar is, I wanted that big explosion at the beginning to be followed with an immediate period of calm, which would then lead into some riffage, cos I like riffage LOL.

Is it the clean guitar section itself, or just the guitar tone?

cheers

It was just the tone - sounded a little but too 'DI' to me, felt like it needed a bit of amp speaker and room around it.

"Dark" as another poster commented - needs a little something but I'm you can work it out in the mix

Ah... Great Chris, cos I much wanted to leave that bit in if I could. I'll have a play with the tone a bit more. It may be that I've taken too much out with some drastic EQ'ing... And you're right... It's straight DI, so I need to look at that. Perhaps consider getting S-Gear, as Tom says above, or dust off my under-used TH-2.

Thanks again for your time Chris

Never a waste of time to expand one's horizons, Andy. Go for it!

I, too, have guitars on the wall that I don't play because I'm not good enough at it. I also have hand percussion that I rarely use because a sampled tambourine or shaker is so much more convenient. I use sampled "oohs" because it's time consuming to sing them myself. There are so many reasonable reasons not to play a real instrument. So kudos for getting off your arse and doing it. Admiration, man.

One reason to favor synths and samples over real instruments is that the latter requires more effort to achieve a desired tone. As stated above, that clean rhythm guitar is dull. OK, they actually said "dark", because it's more polite. I'll stick with "dull". Brighten it, double-track it, add a subtle delay or chorus, whatever it takes.

Then don't forget to add some synths.

Yeah, I've been listening to them again today, and I know what peeps know now, so I think I know what I'm going to do to fix that.

Well... I was hoping to go slightly "prog" with this... So it would be rude not to have some synths on board

Hi Andy,

I think it's absolutely OK if somebody likes your (mine, his) music and somebody don't - in most cases it's a good sign that music is distinctive :)
Trying to incorporate genres and styles and instruments is a way to create something new, uncharted...
I think this WIP piece is a nice start, keep it going :)
Personally I so love rock guitar, combined with strings, ambient textures etc. Did it a few times already and sure will do more :D

Cheers,
Julian

There was nothing I heard that required an apology.  On the contrary, it sounded quite promising.  Keep working on it.  Guitars and synths sound cool together.
