Rain
Just grabbed a 6 pack of these. For no reason besides nostalgia. Saw those stubby bottles and couldn't resist...

I'm not expecting much taste wise.

I had this last night at a local bistro: Man Skirt "Better than Pants" English Bitters.

It was really nice, not too bitter, very smooth going down. A really nice complement to my Bacon Cheddar Burger. ABV wasn't high: only a 4% and 29 IBU. As you can tell from this picture, not too much of a head on it (as to be expected).

It's brewed in Hackettstown, NJ. A solid 4 stars out of 5.

Another excellent citrus-note IPA:

Tangerine and grapefruit notes mark this one. 4.5 out of 5 stars. 7.6 ABV, 80 IBU's. A Long Trail Brewing all year release. Very cool.

I'm not sure if it pairs well with turkey and dressing.

Yet another:

Brewed by Arrogant Brewing (which is related to Stone Brewing[?]), in small batches, at certain intervals.

It was very good. Strong IPA (8.5 ABV, IBU rating is "classified" according to the site, but it's probably about an 80). This ale is a blend of Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard, and Oaked Arrogant Bastard. If you appreciate one (all) of these three ales, you'll like this one.

It's excellent, @ 4.5 out of 5. I enjoyed it with Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar. Yum. Double yum.

Czig Meister's
PumperDunkelweizen Dunkelweizen 5.6% ABV 13 IBU 4 out of 5 stars.

Czig Meister is a microbrewery in Hackettstown, NJ. I liked this fairly sudsy Dunkelweizen with its pumpernickel finish. I enjoyed it with a beautiful Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger at Mattar's Bistro, also in Hackettstown. This picture is a bit darker than it appeared.

It being Christmastide, the number of brews oriented to the holiday is growing. On Friday, I had the following:

I've had it before and enjoyed it. The "specs" are (copied directly from the Rogue site):

Style: Red Ale FOOD PAIRING: Beef, Pork
Tasting Notes: A double hopped Red Ale, reddish in color with a roasty, malty flavor and a well balanced spruce finish.
12 Ingredients: 2 Row, Munich, C15, C40, C75 and Rogue Farms Dare™ & Risk™ Malts; Rogue Farms Newport, Rebel & Freedom Hops; Free Range Coastal Water and Pacman Yeast

ABV: 5.3%  IBU: 65

Beer Advocate rating: 85 The Bros: 92

I'd say that this is really solid, "standard" red ale. There are no surprises here, but the ale does deliver.
