I don't know when it happened or where. I got up Monday morning and saw bloody paw prints in the hallway on the tile. I checked Lilly's paws and found a pretty nasty looking gash up between the paw pads. It had stopped bleeding and I put some antibiotic ointment on it.

We visited the vet to have a look at it. The vet said there was no need to try to stitch it because they would likely rip out from walking. So we put Lilly on some mild antibiotics to eliminate the possibility of infection, some mild pain meds, and instructions to keep her off her feet as much as possible for the better part of a week or two. Oh yeah, and keep the ointment on it too.

So I guess there will be no training for a while.  She's crashed on the floor.

Happened recently to my Boxer, Bus. The hardest thing was getting him to leave it alone...but he did and is fine now. All the best to ol Lilly. Give her an ear scratchin for me.

Yeah...I'm doctoring her on a twice daily basis.

I wrap her antibiotic and pain meds in some leftover turkey and she snarfs it down pretty good.  Sure beats wrestling with her to force something down her gullet. No excessive running and playing.... she's a Shepherd so that's a given that there will be some running and jumping... I just try to keep it to a minimum for the next few days.

I have a Lilly too. She's a young German Shorthair Pointer - I can't even imagine trying to keep her from being active!!!

Good luck and a speedy recovery.

Yeah.... trying to keep this girl off the foot is an exercise in futility.

She wants to run and jump and move around like it's no big deal. Well, it does show some signs of starting to heal, so I guess she's not doing more damage by her mobility.

We are skipping the training and parades scheduled for our team this weekend. And she's staying home for a few days when I go to the farm or she gets put on a rope so she's limited in her wanderings and generally chooses to find a cool, or a sunny spot to lay, depending on the weather.

I bet she doesn't like to be put on a rope at the farm!

We have a Lilly too, but that's the nickname for my little 3 yr. old daughter .
Speaking of cuts.....just last Saturday, my older girl (10) cut her thigh (jumping off our exercise bike/on the pedal) and had pretty bad cut (about the size of a quarter). Needless to say, a lot of blood everywhere....we cleaned her up and took her to the ER where they put 7 stiches.

The interesting part was my girl was very brave and kept saying "it's just a small cut, I'll be fine" while consoling my wife who was really worried and couldn't even look at the gash. I told my daughter how proud I was of her for being such a calm, cool, and brave girl.......and also for not panicking when something bad happens.

So, I can totally relate Herb.....

James you are correct.  She doesn't like the rope.... it is 50' long, and it's needed from time to time. With 28 acres of woods and streams and swamp..... she can do some wandering. I also have a dog tracking collar I use so I can tell where she is and how far away.
