I use both external dedicated soundcards and internal.with à bit of tweaking you can get them to work nicely.
Dedicated soundcard are mandatory to get low latencies, that's all.

Cool! Thanks for replying, guigz2000!
Good to know! Tweaking is fine as long as it is possible!
Not worry about it, since I have other DAWs with Pro-audio cards that runs so well!
I will spend sometimes on it, when I'm on the road with the "DAW" laptop for couple of weeks, which is a only choice..will see!
BTW, a good news is I'm able to use WDM/KS Driver on Sonar X3 and X2, which has about 5-20 ms as low as ASIO4All latency settings (just tried simple projects like 16-20 MIDI and Audio/VST(i)/DX(i) Tracks - not live recording this point at all)! Just wondering if anyone does it or only "by luck of me", since I also got an error message likes "Unable to open audio playback...device may not support that current project's audio...". Thanks!

2 flaws when using internal soundcard:
*If another app is using exclusive access to soundcard, card may not be available to sonar.Using sonar exclusive access will also most of time prevent system sound to change settings (a good point).
*Internal soundcard may not support specific sampling rate and bitdepth. Hardware tester when setting WDM drivers will tell you what's possible. In some cases, you may not be able to open your projects. My internal card supports 44k,48k,96k,192k,16bits,24bits. Not 88k..

Well said, guigz2000! Since WDM kernel driver must be exclusively accessed, in order to gets lowest latency as possible, which is not a multi-client driver, in other words. Same as ASIO pro-card does, except this only has a pair of input/output stereo audio "physical" driver. We are fine to run it within Sonar application! It is also good to know!
Thanks, again!
