Hi, i'm wondering: can i create/edit automation lanes of vst's while is not playing. I know after adding an automation lane, you can select the parameter but on z3ta+ 2 or any vst that have too many parameters this method is too complex so i can record automatıons that i've made in vst's gui but i want to do this (touch any knob on vst's gui an it will appears an automation lane) while track is not playing. Can i do this? If yes, please show me how. Thanks...
P.s: i'm using sonar x3

Hi, me again :) I'm looking for alternate technique to achieving ducking effect. So, i've discovered volume automation technique but i've one question: how can i snap play cursor to lines straighty? (I've found that but, sometimes a little, very little, maybe <1/32 bar difference in grid and play cursor.) I want to snap play cursor on the grids with no difference. Any ideas?

You'll need to play the track with write automation enabled to create the first few nodes.  Then you can stop playback and edit the automation to your heart's content.  If the track isn't playing, you can't record automation into it.

A common point of confusion is that SoftSynths have their own Write Enabled Button on them. Tracks have the button, but if you enable the button on a track and then change parameters on the soft synth you will not get the new lanes. To get the automation lanes for the soft synth, enable both the track and the write enable button on the soft synth itself.

Yes, i'm doing exactly same method, but cannot create a new lane via moving faders/knobs on a VST while track isn't playing, I'm an old Ableton user and really miss this feature...

Ston gave you the answer. Start playback and adjust the knob you want the lane for then stop playback. Then the automation lane for that knob will appear and you can edit the lane with playback stopped. Just clear the nodes that were created when you were turning the knob to get a fresh envelope.

ok, thanks for replying. also i've an another question: when sidechaining, i've creating a bus for "Kick" track and route this bus to "Sonitus:fx Sidechain In" in synth track but i want to sidechain a lots of track, Am i supposed to do create a bus for every tracks i want to sidechain or any method to routing one bus to multiple tracks?

You mean you want to have the kick drum "duck" all those other channels? I think what you would do is put sends on all the tracks you want to "duck" and point them to a bus that has the compressor on it. Then you set the compressor sidechain input to be fed by the kick drum. I'm not sure though. Someone smarter than me will have to help you with that.

Yes "ducking" effect is what i want.

Try what I said then.

Compressor goes on new bus.

Kick > Sidechain Input on compressor

All "duck" tracks > Sidechain bus (via Sends) > Master

Then adjust your sends to get the right ducking effect... however you main output would likely still be dry/audible. If you want the WHOLE sound on those tracks to be ducked then either switch the main track output to send the whole track to the sidechain bus and DON'T use any sends OR use send and set the main track output to "None".

Again I'm not sure if that's exactly how it's done but give it a try. Good luck.

Oh and if you use Sends try setting the Sends to Pre Fader. That way you can send as much or as little of the signal as you want to the compressor without having the track fader affect the main output level. This way you can blend the "ducking" on each track with the original signal better. You can also automate it all so the ducking fades in and out or stops/starts and you can do it track by track instead of being stuck with the same ducking on all the channels.

Just some ideas.
