• SONAR
  • Piano Roll Always Annoyingly Zoomed Out

Every time I double click on a MIDI clip to enter PRV (since updating to X3) the vertical zoom is always minimized making immediate editing next to impossible.

in previous versions it used to be maximized by default. Any way to change this?

I agree, it should retain the "last viewed" setting. Having to re-zoom is not fun. This might be a bug though...

I wonder if one of the bakers will chime in.

I get this at random times as well.

Tres annoying.

Is this true? I don't think the behavior changed from X2a.

When double-clicking the clip, Sonar's PRV just automatically zooms out vertically to show all notes used in the track, no?
It's been annoying for me as well because the auto zoom in/out occurs even when the view is locked (by right-clicking the tab and selecting "Lock content.")

So I've been using Alt-mouse scroll a lot. But I think this issue should be addressed.
Send in a bug report. You'll probably receive the "as intended" reply and they'll submit a feature request on your behalf.

I thought what was supposed to happen was a fit to the notes present (upper/lower range).  Looks like this has zoomed out past that point.  We'll look into it.

But why does it have to fit content automatically when not all users want it to happen and there's a keybindable command "Fit Content" (which I assigned to Ctrl+F) available?

Keith, even then, that's not entirely logical. I'd want the zoom settings to persist until I changed them rather than having Sonar make any changes at all. Example, if I closed the PRV with C3 dead center and 75% vertical and 50% horizontal zoom, I'd want the PRV to open with those exact settings so I can pick up where I left off.

Thanks Keith.

Yes, that was actually a partial of full screen screenshot, not just a dock view, so what is not shown is over half a screen of dead space. I found an older thread that hinted at a 'left click stop scroll' option in track view that might be some how be related to this potential bug, results inconclusive so far.

The workaround is to not close the PRV. Minimize it or dock it and close the dock without closing the tab.

As for PRV opening zoomed out, this might have something to do with using old project templates. When you open a PRV for a non-empty MIDI track, it will/should fit the content, but if you open it on an empty MIDI track, it will open to whatever zoom level was last set. So if you always start projects from a template that is defaulting to minimum zoom, that's what you'll always get when you open a PRV to an empty MIDI track until you save the project/template with a different default zoom level.

I just checked the Normal template that ships with X3, and it's giving me the two octaves around Middle C by default.

ill try creating a new template. My current one has lasted from X1 through X2 with no problems, but it could do with an update.
