  • [Resolved] X3 Vocal take sounding but invisible...

I came from 8.5, so I'm a bit lost in X3.

In Comping Mode, I recorded once vocal take. It plays back and I can hear it, but I can't see the wave form in the Comp track or the Take lane. I have no control over Mute/Solo or volume even though I "think" my routing is good. Struggling a bit here.

It's interesting that you say you have no control over solo & mute.

At which level? Clip? Track? Buss? Master?

I'd try to solve this by working backwards from your mains.
SOMETHING is getting there, you just have to track it down.
Start by muting/soling individual busses, then work back to your tracks and then you can investigate at the clip level

Sound like it may be a hidden track?

Can you please post a picture of this? It's hard to troubleshoot this without some sort of visual guide. :) Thanks!

One way or another, it sounds like you are not looking at or tweaking controls in the same track on which the take was recorded and is playing back.

Thanks, everyone. Using the H key, I can see that the track is visible, and in Track view I can also see the track header info, but no waveform.
I decided not to troubleshoot any longer and just started a new project and brought stuff over. Thanks again and this one will remain a mystery for me.
I noticed that I don't have the Key change option any more, unless I'm missing it. Since Cakewalk 3.0 back in 1992, I used to change the keys to MIDI files to test my voice against them by arrowing up/down without have to actually transpose the MIDI data. It's something I used a lot, and gave me a good visual reference of how many semi-tones up or down from the original I was working with and could then have multiple versions.
Overall, I love Sonar X3, I just have to get used to it.
I did have a weird thing in Comping mode, where one of four of the Take lanes was doubling when I soloed it. Not sure what was happening with that as it happened on two different songs. I'd solo each Take lane and all was fine, but then one Take lane had two voices sounding, even though it was in Solo mode. I'll learn, eventually.
Thanks again, all.

About the key change option - do you mean the transpose value (vs command) for MIDI tracks?  If so, check the Track Inspector.   And if it's while using an Instrument Track, make sure to click the MIDI tab at the lower right corner in the TI.

Thanks, Steve. I checked the Track Inspector and don't see it there either.

In Track View I always could see a value of 0 with an up/down arrow and would just click up or down to transpose the track on the fly. Don't see that anymore like I did in 8.5 and earlier. Really miss it for my work as it's laborious to highlight the tracks, right click, choose Process/Effects then MIDI and then Transpose.

That is in the TI - I use it every now and then.   What type of track do you have?

Thanks, Steve. I guess I missed it. They are all MIDI only tracks.

I buy sequences from vendors and in 8.5 and before I used to be able to just Up or Down arrow the key in semi-tone adjustments, then save different versions to try my vocals against.

By having these numbers visible, when I'd load a different version of the song, I could quickly see if the songs were 1, 2, 3 or 4 semi-tones up or down from the original key without having to make written notes or start looking at the notation (which I can't read anyway).

I'll take another look to see how I missed it in Track Inspector.
