i kind of dislike the idea of a 'contest' for mixing,
because there are so many variables that rely on 'subjective decisions'.
I agree, wholeheartedly.
I have "entered" two competitions in the last couple of weeks, but in reality I am doing this more for the mixing experience, as opposed to actually considering myself as anywhere near a contender for the prize. Even though I've been creating stuff for over thirty years, it is only in the last couple of months that I have been getting to grips with the art of mixing.
And even if I "got gud" at mixing I doubt that I would bother entering a competition.

Perhaps the other guys did, but I was the only one that thought to mention it... We'll see
When you look/listen to what some of the other "competitors" on SoundCloud are doing, it is obvious that some of these guys are mixing engineers, and I am never going to compete with that. First and foremost, I'm a "composer," and mixing/mastering for me comes out of the necessity to put stuff out there that at least sounds okay (composition not withstanding
).

It sounds like I am at least getting somewhere with my mixing endeavours, although there is still quite a bit of stuff to do yet... I've still not got my head around using any side chain techniques, or using automation to ride them faders, but I'm at least producing something that is not too bad...
