• SONAR
  • Export Isn't Like Mix

In one project, I can clearly hear the RealGuitar solo guitar lines when I play the mix.  When I export the project, these guitar lines are extremely quiet.  I have checked everything a dozen times and tried exporting at least 5 times.  What is wrong?

•  The track in question is definitely going to Master like everything else.
•  The automation looks right.
•  Include Live Input is checked and all the other live input is going to the mix just fine.

Any reason why something that sounds fine when playing the project in Sonar would be far too quiet in the exported audio?  I am really burning a lot of time on this.

By the way, in the export dialog, I am using the same present I have saved and used for every other mix.

UPDATE:  I checked AUDIBLE BOUNCE and the guitar part is quiet when exporting.  If I am just playing the track and not exporting, the part is fine.  GRRRR!

Hi, Konrad.

I don't know RealGuitar, but are you using fast bounce, or realtime bounce?

Have you checked any sends?

I know you know this stuff, but I'm just fishing..

Thanks.  Only send on this track is reverb and I have it off and on.  I am using real time bounce because not all the instruments are frozen.  I have never had an issue with RealGuitar—I use it on every project.

This is driving me nuts.  Play the project and it's fine.  Export it and the guitar is like half-volume.

Update:  I saved the MIDI, deleted the track, deleted the instance of RealGuitar, inserted a new instance, copied in the MIDI, and it's fine.  I wish I knew what happened, but at least it's working now.  Thanks.

Just to make sure one of the recent patches haven't changed anything (in your setup), I would copy your tracks into a new project and see what happens.

This would also confirm or rule out if the project's been corrupted.

I'm sure that you have checked that all tracks AND busses are routed to Master, and not mains..

JonD, I basically did a mini-version of what you suggested by creating a new instance of RealGuitar so you are right on.

jb101, Funny you should say that!  I did check that because that screwed me up on a previous project: one sneaky track was routed to Mains so it sounded fine but didn't mix right.  In this case, that was not the problem but you are right to point that out.

Well, friends, we may never know what happened here.  I am going to assume there was some kind of accidental and corrupt plug-in automation.

I have been burned enough times with the export that I habitually will bounce tracks prior to the export just to make the export cleaner. Did you give that a try?

This is the usual suspect when I have export problems.
