  • [Resolved] ONE MORE Feature Better Left Alone (p.3)

NOT SO FAST!  Here's another like the other features.  This time I have a quote from the Ref Man. that I tried several times with absolutely NO results.  All I get is the stupid little symbol that looks like a controller.  Here's how the Ref Man says to do it. Pg. 129 if you don't believe me.

Click on the STUPID tool  in the Control Bar. You can also enable this tool by pressing the F5 key
on your computer keyboard. To draw a note with the Smart tool, drag on the grid, or hold down the
ALT key and click on the grid.
To create a note, click on the grid at measure 1.
If you click on various sections of a note, the Smart tool performs a different function:
• Left edge. Adjusts the start time.
• Right edge. Adjusts the end time or the duration.
• Top. Adjusts the velocity of the note, which indicates how hard the note is played.
• Bottom. Allows you to move the note to another location on the PRV grid.
Try to create a melody using this technique. You might find that you can only create 16th notes or
longer. If you want 32nd notes or triplets, specify the desired Musical Time resolution in the Control
Bar’s Snap module.
I tried EVERYTHING!! Right clicking, etc.  So, I can't even enter a freakin' note!!!!NO SOLUTION like, Oh! for those NORMAL, LOYAL geeks we have a module you can load that retains all the technology that worked fine, yet you can still use the 64Bit technology as well.  WHAT A CONCEPT!

Ok, despite the insulting tone towards us "new" geeks

Beep, I don't think he said "new." I'm pretty sure he said "Young." Don't think you fall in that category!! Do you? LOL! Nice try though!!

King I hate to tell you, but your about two years late to this party!

Two years ago you would have had ten pages on this thread by now with all sorts of people singing the same song your singing now.

Some of the things I would have agreed with you too, back then. But now I can do things much faster than I ever thought I could. It really is faster. But it takes a good bit of time to learn. At least for me it did.

ABTW, I've been a user since PA6. I stopped upgrading when the first Sonar came out. When I got back in the loop was with Sonar 5, and that was a shock. But I quickly realized that things had come sooo far and I got left behind. It wasn't till Sonar 8 that I really got back in the grove. Then guess what? They did it again! But this time I made my mind up I wasn't going to get left behind. And with a new computer, new Win7 and the new X1, I started over, again.

And I am so glad I did. Pro Channel is worth it alone! But when you throw the new GUI "Skylight" into the mix, it becomes a no-brainer. And there really is more, with more to come!

I know the solution to all of this guy's problems. But you know, being referred to as a geek, with a side-serving of the implication that anyone who can grasp and cope with a bit of change now and then is some kind of sucker... well, I don't think I'm going to bother helping him. Another ranting loon on the internet with the manners of a pig, I am sick of em.

I started with Cakewalk 3.0 (on floppy disk) for sequencing stuff back in the late 80s early 90s.  Finally migrated to PA9...still only used it for sequencing since I was still using analog tape machines.

When I first got X1 back in Dec. of 2011, I was totally frustrated and even stated here in the forums that X1 was OBVIOUSLY geared toward audio and NOT midi.  But my frustration was solely based on my lack of knowledge as to how the X series operated.

Once I took the time to actually play around with X1, then X2 and now X3....it is a dream to work with.  MIDI is a blast to work with, it sees all my hardware synths and racks, and still syncs up flawlessly with my Alesis HD24 when I want to track with it.

So as others have said....allow yourself some time to just "play" with the X series of Sonar and learn your way around it.  I know without a doubt that all these great folks here in the forums were really getting tired of my b**ching, when it was totally every bit my fault because of lack of experience with this new DAW.  But I got LOTS of help and answers here and have come to LOVE working with X1,X2, and X3.

And I will take this time to say THANK YOU again to ALL of the people here who have helped me in the past...!!!

@Grem... lol. Yeah I realized my misquote after I posted but couldn't be arsed to edit. And for the record I'm in my mid thirties so technically still young? Please tell me I'm still young?!

;-)

As to OPs follow up... all those functions work as advertised here. Call support. Something is wrong. Also changing the name of the Smart Tool to the "Stupid" Tool isn't very productive nor is it clever.
