  • New Functions for F7, F8, F9, F10? You Gotta Be Kidding Me... (p.3)

are those functions something you use frequently ?
that's all I can come up with.
maybe cakewalk decided it was something not used frequent enough to bind to those keys and those keys were causing problems for other functions or even those same functions.

that's all I got :-)

Chuck - The fact that I still remember, F7-10 says it all as far as I'm concerned. This thread is years old... came back up... and got lots of nods.

I use the goto beginning and end of clip buttons to quickly zoom to adjust fades. This can take time on a track that has been heavily split. I know you can set the clip fades for every clip on a track at once, but I need to double check them at least to make sure I haven't cut off sound I want.

I use the mark of selection start and selection end so that I can span markers for my selected area. I use ctrl page up and down to move between the markers. Without being able to use a hot keys to set selected area between markers, I end up deleting the markers in the middle which just isn't a good solution. When there are no markers in the middle, I can set selected area with just a click. I do this because I like to ctrl+a to select all tracks, quickly select the region between the markers and then bounce to tracks.

@Brundlefly - Thanks!

well - since its possible to remap it its ok...

what do i use it for?

since i mainly start tracks with analog drum machines (808, 909 etc) i record my drumloops and then
by selecting start and end of a clip - and using "shift+m" i adapt the time signature of the track to the propietary speed of the loop
(actually i am a declarde NON user of audiosnap, timestrectching or pitchshifting
if the loop of the 808 has a speed of 122,321 than thats the way it has to be as i want to preserve the proprietary essence of my audio recordings :-)

best regards

One can only agree with this. It is not like these functions cannot be changed/edited to suit. Or have been removed entirely. Seems to be a complaint about not a lot really.

EDIT 11/4/2013: Note this is an old X1-based thread brought back to life after three years with post #10.

F9/F10 have been From/Thru = Now since Cakewalk 1.0 for DOS! I am not about to try to unlearn that habit now after 22 years! And they unbound Ctrl-F9 and Ctrl-F10 from From = Beginning and Thru=End, but then didn't use them for anything else...?

Likewise F7/F8 have been Go to From/Thru for as long as I can remember, and I use them all the time to go to the beginning or end of a selected note or clip.

Some of these changes are just nutty for oldtimers like me. It's all fixable, of course, by setting custom bindings, but I think there definitely should have been an option to revert X1 to traditional shortcut conventions. I'm trying to keep an open mind to the changes, but some of them are really not working for me.

I especially don't understand the shortcut keys that were unbound, and then not re-used for something else (Ctrl-M, and Shift-A are two more).

This interface has turned me into Larry, Moe and Curly all rolled into one.

I don't understand what your issue is.  Just go into Keybinding and change the hotkeys to whatever you want, then you can have F7, F8, F9 and F10 work the way they always have in X3c.   That's the way it's working for me, same as always...

Jeez, what do I have to do to get people to read that update before responding.

Note also, I said myself (three years ago) "It's all fixable, of course, by setting custom bindings...".

I'm really looking forward to Sonar 8! Is anybody using 64 bit yet?
