Okay, just poking around the manual and some of my notes and I think I already went through this before to find that this option is not available in Sonar. If this is indeed the case I'd like to propose a feature request for this and perhaps some more advanced Now Time marker options.
The particular behavior I am referring to is basically this...
1) Start Playback
2) The screen will remain unchanged until the Now Time Marker reaches the center of the current view.
3) Once the Now Time Marker reaches the center of the current view it remains centered and the view scrolls smoothly to the right as the project plays back.
This is particularly helpful when zoomed all the in on something you want to audition for editing. It lets you keep an eye on the data as the section plays instead of jumping to the next section where your eyes (and brain) have to dart around trying to find the problem area.
This works well in conjunction with combinations of the Rewind On Stop function enable/disabled. Basically if it is disabled then once you get to the problem area you can stop playback and that spot is centered on screen. If you have to scroll around to center the area when you are zoomed in it is difficult to be precise... especially if that spot has already jumped offscreen. Of course there is the option of center zooming on that point with the absolutely excellent (IMO) Time Ruler zoom but it is an extra step.
If I am completely mistaken and there is a smooth scrolling option please point me in the right direction as it will really help my editing workflow.
This is not a complaint... it is a question/suggestion.
Don't flame me, bro. ;-)
