  • I forget... Is there a "Smooth Scrolling" Now Time option? (p.2)

Good morning. Woke up obscenely early (4:30am) and have been doing some midi editing. I just tried holding G with scrolling enabled and it still did the screen jump thing. Thanks for the suggestion though.

A BIG +1 for smooth scrolling!

+1.  I've used it on other daws and like it.  I'd want it to be an option - fixed screen, moving time line - or - fixed time line, moving screen.

Now, how about scrolling vertically instead of horizontally?

"G" will do it, but only per instance each time it's hit. SONAR doesn't have a "mode" for it. Used to be only Digital Performer had this feature but it's ubiquitous now so yeah, I would also like to see it. When doing editing work trying to audition the jump is very tedious. You CAN hold the G key down and it will basically mimic that feature, which is a poor man's workaround.

Sounds like you'd enjoy using a tracker instead of a DAW...some people still swear by them. They certainly make you think differently about composition and arrangement. I believe there are some freeware ones available these days.

I used a tracker with vertical scrolling back in the day and loved it. In fact it was so ingrained on my mind that using a horizontal based DAW like PT or Sonar felt odd at first.

I can't make "G" do it.  In TV or PRV.  I just searched KBSC and the only "G" is Go To Time.

Can you elaborate?

Thanks

I did indeed try G in both TV and PRV. The only thing that seems to have happened was that the Now Time refused to start from any other spot than where I had it after pressing G and trying to move the Now Time Marker manually. I had to use the shuttle slider in the transport module to unstick it. That's probably unrelated but that's the only thing that seemingly changed. Kind of freaked me out actually.

Ah yes... supposed to be Go To. Not sure why it got stuck or it didn't behave the way Go To is supposed to. Meh. I don't think smooth scroll is there in the X series, guys. I've moved on. Just disabling scroll is good enough for now. It's the first thing I do when I start messing with a project because the screen jumping thing is just far too distracting. I manually scroll when need be.

Agh, whooops, yeah they re-did that when they did the new key clusters in X1. Crud I don't know what the new shortcut key is!

Ah, it's bindable. "center view on now time". I just bound it to my "Y" key.
