Yeah it's a poor workaround, because there's a redraw lag that makes critical eyeballing pretty hard. Plus, it requires a free hand to hold the darned key down.

Now that is a very odd picture...    I'm guessing she just got done talking about some small, light precision weights that could be used to slow down the fish or something.    
 
But back OT, I wouldn't mind this as a lockable action - I always liked the scroll display in Sound Forge.  As an option, of course.
