The driver is what makes the board looks like MIDI devices (really 3 MIDI devices). The editor and Sonar plug-in are using generic MIDI devices for communication, plug-in does not even using it directly, it sends/receive information to Sonar, which in turn send/receive it to/from the board (throw the driver).

They had to work hard to make the software incompatible with Windows 10. It will work, but it is just "no longer supported".

I guess the only visible difference between Roland drivers and generic USB-MIDI is default mapping. This mapping is configurable (with the editor or on device) and so it should be possible to make it work correctly. But since Roland is already "testing" new drivers, there is no need for that.

Ok ,I got my A-Pro 800 apro_w81d_v102 drivers installed in Win 10 after reading this thread
 http://forum.cakewalk.com/How-to-use-V700-win-8-driver-in-win-10-m3206046.aspx
and everything works perfectly :-)
After reading that thread I thought this may work for the A-Pro installers and it did !!
All the best

You really shouldn't reply without reading posts in the thread properly first. This is an unfortunate mix of ignorance and arrogance.

You'll make yourself look rather silly.

When you come up with rude statements like that you should really explain yourself. What part of .. 'Official Roland drivers are not released yet' do you not understand and what is my supposed arrogance and ignorance?

From memory I don't even think the rest of the software works properly in windows 8, and it certainly isn't required for Sonar, just drivers, the act software is embedded inside Sonar. I've never needed to install it (as I've already said) and it works fine in Sonar/windows 8 just fine. From that I could assume it could work just fine in Windows 10 once official drivers are out (but I'm not making assumptions). Apparently it's working fine with a hack.

Pray please do enlighten my ignorent stupidy. If I have made a mistake I would prefer to know what it is rather than be insulted... Many thanks...

I should explain myself?
You immediately piled in with a response which didn't make sense within the context of the thread. If only you could bother to read the rest of the posts you would understand.

Never mind reading a whopping whole page though before making comments out of context again.

All you need to know is that Roland is working on a new driver but has dropped support for the extra software  (A-Pro editor and control surface for Sonar). The new driver is still "under testing".
Meanwhile some forums (here and elsewhere) users have modified the Win8 drivers to get them working in 10,
in advance of proper drivers from Roland.
So there are now at least two ways to get it working now in Win 10 before official driver support is completed.
Modified drivers and switching the keyboard to "normal mode" from the standard "advanced mode". This is described in the manual and discussed in this thread.

Roland have upset a lot of their customers by dropping support for several other devices altogether and dropping support for the extra software on A-800.
At least we can help some users to get their now completely unsupported keyboards working with the generic "normal mode" driver. I have done this already.

Again I wrote earlier I don't think the additional software is required for act, it is embedded in Sonar. I don't even believe the additional software even works well in windows 8. All you need is the official Roland drivers which are under testing (which will obviously be released at some stage). So what exactly is there to be upset about? Are you saying what I am saying is incorrect?

Otherwise (again) what on earth are you taking issue with?

I wrote a response in the context of what you wrote below. I directly quoted you.

Hi,
A Pro 800 (current product) currently does not work in Win10. Allegedly drivers are "under testing"
I'm hoping this is a very poorly worded suggestion that the drivers are being worked on. However the latest legend on their website suggests otherwise.
Roland driver advice seems to imply that they cannot be bothered to make their devices compatible.
Roland appear to have stuck two fingers up at their customers, and I hope they lose most of them if this attitude continues:
Note the legends, no suggestion of drivers in development

No: No plan for compatible version
We are sorry but we have no plan to make it compatible with Windows(R) 10 64-bit Edition / 32-bit Edition"

Then please don't tell people they are ignorent and arrogant, and then fail to pinpoint exactly what it is they are supposed ignorent and arrogant about. That is not peace and love. Many thanks.

Still on the attack?
I give up. Read the whole thread properly, or not.
Peace be with you.

I'm not the one on the attack, I'm on the defence. You called me ignorant and arrogant. I haven't called you any names or insulted you in any way. I think all I did was clarify that you might be under a misunderstanding here and this was your response.

I've asked you three times now what you have taken issue with and you don't seem to want to supply a direct answer probably because you can't.

Never mind..

You started on the attack, your first post in this thread was attack.
Your second post (on the attack again) proved you weren't interested in following the thread properly but you still felt like attempting to undermine what I was saying.
If you want any further explanation you should read the thread from the top, it's not long.

Now in the words of Dave Allen "Goodnight, thank you, and may your God go with you."
