Bert Guy
I was rummaging around my music room a while back when I came across this master, listened to it for the first time in more than ten years, and was pleasantly surprised. This is probably the 3rd complete song I've written.
Recorded Jan/2002 at UpFront Studios, Las Vegas Nevada

Nice one Bert. Liking the riffage, the laid-back vocal and the lead fills. Cool progression on the hook too.

Nice groove, Bert. My main opinion would be re-doing the drums. They don't kick enough for this style. Definitely they should be louder in the mix.

James,

Thank you for your kind words. Yeah, I thought that chorus worked out pretty well myself..

Glad you liked it.

Fun, driving track. Things sound mixed pretty well - the hi-hat and the drums generally could be spiffed up a bit, and the vocal is very understated. The vocals could maybe compressed up louder? Kinda going for a Boz Skaggs vocal maybe? I'd turn 'em up and drown them in chorus and reverb!  :)

Yeah, this has a 70s SF feel to it that's very pleasing.  The mix is good -- everything sits well and the band is locked into the groove.  Good one!

Ken,
I couldn't agree more, I can hear a strong snare in the chorus. The engineer was talented but single-minded  =and a prog-rock muso himself- and my impression is that proggers are more interested in the bass drum than the snare. He miked the drum kit accordingly.

Tom,
Thanks for listening.
The engineer didn't process this vocal much: a high end condensor mic with a whiff of high-end tube pre-amp/comp on the way into the recorder. Maybe a dash of reverb afterwards. Like you, I think they could/shoild be brought more out front with eq, comp etc.

Nice tune and a rocking track.  Personally I would definitely like to hear the vocals more prominent in the mix.
