Hey there Folks. I had already downloaded the new version of sonar Platinum with full intention of buying it. I was a few days into the trial when I clicked something in the discover pane that let me know that Gibson was stopping the Cakewalk Line. that Breaks my heart. I have been a loyal user since 2004, I started with guitar tracks and ended up with X3 Producer, with quite a few other products in between.

I really like platinum and I want to know what will happen once the 30 evaluation period ends. Projects started in Platinum won't open in X3 and I don't want to be half done with a project and lose it because I have no way to buy it

Well, I don't see how you will be able to authorize it? So when the trial is up, so is your install of platinum. You cannot buy it of course, too late as you know.
Sorry. Others will chime in, but I'm pretty sure about what I have said.

Take down the Demo then...Nothing like teasing people with something they can't have.  That's just wrong

Not a good idea to invest in a project in any demo as you will always be looking at this situation.
But you need not loose your work.
Did you try saving as a CWB file? I would think that will work.
Somebody said the other day that it will and I was going to back up all my Splat projects this way as a back up plan to use X3 if Splat dies.

If not then save as a MIDI file OPEN in X3 and then just drag and drop your audio into the X3 project. Copy over all your VST's and plug ins and thats it.
I have always made midi file back ups of my projects as thats where all my work goes. Audio is easy to copy into any DAW.

I am going to mix down all the audio that I have now so that I can drag and drop back into the projects that I had started in X3.   I always evaluated new versions by seeing what I could do with projects that I already had going.  that way I could really get a feel for it.  I don't like using demo projects because I know where I was going with my own...LOL

I have been through this sort of thing before, I used to be a musicmatch user I have still yet to find another music player that I like as much as I did that little jem.  I hope that when the time comes to abandon X3 I can find something that comes close. I have already started looking  {please let someone reboot cakewalk before I have to do that}

I tried a bunch of the other DAW's and X3 will have more to offer than most, save your money. Cubase is the only one I find that for me could replace Sonar.

And  I also demo DAWs by taking a downloaded midi file and see how good I can make it. Then I record my guitar and vocals to try out the audio part. Most do the same with audio but Sonar has the best handle on MIDI with Cubase a close second.

I could be wrong, but I thought as long as you dont use patch points or aux tracks, the files should open in X3 with a warning that some features may not be present.

I saved as a bundle file and that worked...I had to go through and get rid of a few things that weren't compatible (Rematrix solo that I had on a master buss) but it's all good

I just found a copy of Platinum for sale on guitar center would I be able to it it to work (authenticate it) or am I just out of luck...I really wish Cakewalk would have let us know this was happening...I had been saving my pennies for this upgrade and was just a month too late...
