Hello.  Long time since I have been here.  A remix of an old tune.  Hoping to get it right this time, but my mix lacks warmth.  I think.  Is it just me?

Hi Sunny,

Interesting effect on the drums, although I don't think that the 128kbps bitrate allowed by SoundCloud is doing the hi-hat and cymbals any favours.

I like the song, it sounds a bit late Beetles Beatles to me, from what little I know of them. I think it is the cello that is making me think that.

I enjoyed listening,

cheers

Nice minimalist production with a 60s feel.  Especially the cellos, very Beatles-esque.  You are making some nice recordings of your voice and acoustic guitar, with well done backing tracks.  Your production really focuses attention on the excellent singing you do.  Reminds me a little of Frank Black, from the Pixies.  But in a good way! :)

Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing.

The mix is okay, but those drums have a lot of high frequency energy that makes everything else sound a little dull. Tame them a bit, bring the guitar forward a bit and that should help. A little overall compression to glue everything together will help as well, just don't overdo it.

Thanks!  That's helpful.

Agreed, wrong context for the drums. The Chris Squire Bass Tone is not helping either.

It's kind of a half-Yes half-Hollies song. It's needs to lean one way of the other.

Aside from that it's a good song.

I think you're on to something here.  I agree that it sounds Beatlesque, like a lost recording.  I don't hear the drums as being that problematic, but a tweak or two and this will be a gem!  Good songwriting!

Nice song, no argument there! Love the Beatles cello/string thing. Great topic, too!

I would consider doubling your vocal, or doing a parallel compression thing alongside it. You have a good voice but it could be presented just a tad beefier to help this song. if you have something like Soundtoys Microshifter, a little bit goes a long way.

I'm guessing that snare is a very conscious choice! That's a bold call! Just for fun you might try something drier, less reverb, less kind of like a trashcan lid. But I think you've chosen that particularly so good on ya.

Your singing is the strength, I'd just trick it up a little!

cheers,
-Tom

Great to hear from you Sunny, really cool song. That effect on the snare was a bit of a surprise at first but grew on me as the song continued. With the other horn parts, panning guitar rhythms....I have no beef with those drums. Only nit I would pick would be the cello at about 1:40 may be a tad loud or dry. Another great composition and performance.
