Good song and well sung.  I guess the rest of it is personal opinion, and mine is that the drums, snare in particular, feel like they're fighting with the rest of the track.  Some of it may be all the reverb, but I think the goal should be to make all the instruments sound like they were played in the same room.

Thanks everyone. Based on all the comments, I have taken another crack.  The drums should be less irritating to the ear I hope.  Let me know what you think.

Agreed, wrong context for the drums. The Chris Squire Bass Tone is not helping either.

It's kind of a half-Yes half-Hollies song. It's needs to lean one way of the other.

Aside from that it's a good song.

My friend Ed wrote what I was thinking, arrangement seems at odds with the song - I liked the song btw.

I stuck with the bass.  Are the drums better?

Congratulations Sunny. This is now my favourite song. I love the whole vibe of the song. The horns and cello parts are awesome. Great choice of instruments and arrangement.

Like Andy said, it has a Beatlesque feel to it.

I think the song has a lot of warmth (I am listening on headphones right now). My only criticism would be about the bass. It sounds to harsh for me. Almost a slap bass with crunch? I would maybe try a softer/warmer bass track. I think that would sit in the mix better. And although the drums are good, it seems to me like something could enhance them. I like the kick a lot. I think the snare might sound too tinny to me.

Please take my advice with a grain of salt. I am certainly no expert.

Again, great song and I absolutely love it.

Cheers,

Chad

Cheers!  I'll leave this one alone for now.  I'll have fresher ears in a few weeks.

IMO, no. They seem the same to me.

I really like the song - for all the reasons stated above.  The arrangement works great too IMO.   Love the variety of instrumentation used, and the tremolo guitar parts are very cool.

Mix-wise I agree with previous posts that the snare is a bit too much bottom mic "snares" and not enough top mic "pop", and that the bass is very Rickenbacker-ish and could use a "rounder" tone. The reverb you added on the tail of the cello works nicely.    But mix nits aside, it really is a great song.
