  • X3: Glitchy sound / CPU overload when tweaking a vst knob with a mouse (p.4)

Hello,

Moving to X3 resulted in a really annoying problem. Every time i move any VST knob/fader with a mouse I get glitchy sound and CPU overload. It happens not with all of the plugins (Arturia works fine), but a great many of them including anything made by TAL.

I downloaded the trial for this TAL Bassline Plugin.  As soon as I dropped in some MIDI and set the MIDI to loop, SONAR X3 crashed to the desktop. A full reboot was required.  I'm going to test this plugin within X2 and see if it has the same effect (no pun intended :P)

I'll keep you guys posted.

Alright, well it does seem like I can get this plugin to crash pretty frequently.  Whatever the issue is may be related to the GUI glitching while moving knobs.  Our team looking into this now.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but do you "want to hear the most annoying sound in the world?" If so, then watch and listen to this...

Pay attention not the looping beat and synths but rather the EXTREME scratchy audio that occurs when dragging the MIDI notes, or opening the SYSEX page (seen near the end). Is this like what the OP is experiencing?  I have not, repeat, have not figured out a cure to this glitchy-scratchy garbage! It's seems that no matter what the buffer/latency setting, it still persists.

I use a TI-chipped Firewire PCIe card and a Focusrite Firewire interface (Saffire Pro 24). In a desperate attempt to salvage this pile of you know what, I am going to buy a Scarlett 18i6 just to see if a USB interface cleans it up. If not, then I will return it.

FWIW, a few of us have been/are successfully using the 18i6 with SONAR.  I'm running Win7 x64 on a Q9300 w/ 8GB RAM - not a high-end system by any means, but stable with SONAR.   For tracking or critical purpose I can run at 1ms input latency, but once the project fills up it's usually in the 6-12ms range - still very usable.  And with that, the only graphics related thing that consistently causes some gltchy/static behavior is when moving the TH2 UI around, something others have seen as well.

Good luck!

hey dan.  i just followed the same steps you did with no irregularities whatsoever.  no gui glitches at all either. weird.
edit: with the tal bassline-101 i did repro a crash.  took a while though...

I just spent 20 minutes trying to generate glitches in the X3 demo running at 256 samples with all MIDI tracks unfrozen, console emulators enabled on all tracks, dragging TH2 and other GUIs around the interface, scrolling rapidly up and down through tracks with the cursor keys, zooming the track pane, tweaking knobs everywhere, etc, etc. Playback and graphics were as smooth as I have ever seen both audibly and visibly. Quite impressive, actually, especially considering the humble hardware I'm running.

I sincerely hope Dan et al. can get to the bottom of this for everyone reporting issues in this thread, 'cause this is a great piece of software when everything's happy.

I believe the glitch issue appears only in the 32-bit version. I installed X3-64 yesterday and the glitch is gone (at least with those plugins who reappeared in the 64-bit environment). I tried to stay on 32-bit version as long as possible to avoid "migration hell", but maybe it's time to move on...

Happens for me on 64 bit but only with Breverb and the BlueTubes stuff.

I'm having a similar issue, and I had another thread on this.  I am not having any sound or CPU spikes though.  It only seems to be glitching with the faders and knobs and only with the mouse.  If I use the scroll wheel, no problems at all, also if I use the touchscreen there are no issues.

Another issue seems to be that I'm getting strange video glitches, like when I open certain projects they come up in real tiny font and if I move the bus pane on the console view, there is some strange trailing at the bottom of the screen and is left on there.

I'm having similar issues with both glitchy sounds - esp when manipulating the Nomad Factory audio effects...just moving a dial whilst playing will get me a massive drop out of sound - and redrawing of VST plug-ins in the main window. That is, if I dock a plug-in in the main view, I can still just see another docked plug-in underneath...like just the bottom of the other one. Although I had Alchemy docked last night and I could see the console underneath it, although it wasn't active. Confused me for a bit at first, as I tried to move one of the dials in the console and it wasn't working, so I thought uh-oh, crash! DOH! It wasn't actually there, so when I went back to the console dock, everything was working.
