I almost feel I don't deserve it!  This thing is a monster.  I think I want to be buried in it!  (IT'S THAT BIG) I've never seen a computer better built than this.  Thank you Jim!

On my old machine, one instance of Kontakt, running the included Choir patch would register 49% of my CPU.  On this machine it takes only 1%.

If you are thinking about getting a new computer, please do yourself a favor, and check out Studiocat!

It's nice to have a beast, and I'm happy for you, but I wonder about the need to overclock a DAW ?

In my mind stability, longetivity, low temp/fan noise etc. are more important that trying to get the last bit of horsepower, unless you also need that for something else (or just the fun of it).

How much realworld (daw) difference does a 1 GHz increase really provide ?

Jim definitely does good work. I've had mine for a few years now and it has been rock solid.

+1 for Jim's work.  I've had him build 2 or 3 over the years.

Jim Roseberry is always top of mind for audio and any pc difficulty.
Happy to share the word...
...same for Scott Garrigus and all the folks I've exchanged thoughts, questions, quips here on the CW forum

That cpu is a good one to overclock. Todays cpus are "almost" designed to do it. They have lots of headroom. So your not really pushing it to the limits like the old days. Also the RAM and other components are also much more stable and reliable and built for the very reason of overclocking. Today's overclocked systems are really much more realiable than the past.

The "K" series CPUs were designed by Intel for controlled overclocking.
With the right motherboard/cooling and configuration, you have a rock-solid machine that runs cool/quiet.
Do you need the additional 10-20% performance from the OC?  Depends on what you're running.
As long as the machine tests rock-solid and you keep the OC/voltage within reason, there's no downside to doing so...

I recently purchased a block of consulting time with Jim to assist setting up my home built DAW, including overclocking my i7-3770K. As a result, my system is now incredibly stable, runs cool and quiet, with DPC latency hovering just under 10us. I've owned and built a LOT of DAWs over the years, and the knowledge/experience/expertise I received from Jim was the BEST money I've spent for my studio in a very long time.

It's incredibly quiet. In fact I had a moment of dred when I first booted up, because I didn't hear any fan noise. Then I saw that my monitor showed the win 8.1 start screen! WHEW!
