I recently purchased a Roland TD4 elect drum kit.  I like the EZdrummer samples better than the Roland sounds. I want to trigger EZdrummer with midi out of TD4 to my FF800midi in.

I want to be able to put each PAD on a separate track in SONAR. I can do this
now using EZdrummer builtin grooves mixer. I need to learn how to assign the TD4 pads to the EZmixer...I guess.

I will read the manual today and try it.

Any tips appreciated,
Jeff

Hi Jeff. When you open the EZ mixer I believe in the upper left there is a drop down box. Select multi channel. On the lower portion of the mixer you can also assign specfic tracks to specific drums. Track 1 = kick, 2 = snare and so on.
I believe this is what your asking for. However, I also have the Latin Percussion kit, and you have to assign your specific roland pads to it. The way I did it was to open the kit so that I'm viewing it, then on your TD4 module go to assign note. You will see that as you select different midi notes on the module that it will control different parts of the latin percussion kit. When your finished assigning the midi notes, save it.
I actually have saved kit 2 on my td so that it controls my Latin percussion kit. Kit one controls my Nashville kit and so on.
Hopefully this helps you.

THAT'S GREAT NEWS....just what I wanted to hear.
thanks,

another question: I have a new Dell laptop Studio. Im thinking to load EZdrummer in it for live gigs. I wonder if the stock sound card will produce the EZ sounds. Will try that out.

I use a Roland TD-12 kit with EZ-Drummer and Superior 2.  I much prefer Superior 2 with the roland kit as I think they've built Superior 2 with electronic kits in mind.  EZ-Drummer will work, but you might be disappointed in the midi capturing with regards to the hi-hat (specifically open/opening/closing/closed detail).

Now with that said, you will be able to capture your TD-4 into Sonar via mapped midi notes to the kit in EZ-Drummer.

Thanks Tom ....
Its a shame I even have to use EZ or Superior...looks like Roland would have put better sounds into the kit. I cant EQ the snare and sizzle, to sound anywhere near what I want. The snare always sounds hollow, like the underwires are missing..not crispy.

Hi Jeff,

First download the Ezdrummer template at  http://www.toontrack.com/downloads.asp
it's way at the bottom pf the page under "extra downloads"
This will give you separate tracks for EZDrummer in Sonar.

Also, watch Blades video on setting up drum maps.
http://www.blades85.com/sonar.htm

Good luck with this......I'm going thought the same thing setting up a Yamaha Set!

Best,
Michael

I use superior2.0 with Roland TD3 v-drums and you have total control of the sounds. For example there are 3 seperate mic's for the snare and you can insert effetcs form inside superior's GUI and you it also has tools to shape and alter any of the drums. Its amazing what sounds you can get with it. Its very very flexable and stand by it

Edit; I just wanted to add that Superior Drums where made with Electronic drums in mind. It was made to work well with them and it does!!

+1 For CJ's advice.....

Another one to consider is XLN audios Addictive drums....great sounds, and with the new Adrenaline update, vdrums are mapped very easily.

My drummer prefers the default sounds of addictive drums.....but superior has more sound shaping flexibility
