  • Has anyone seen this behavior in the PRV?

Using the smart tool

1. Open the PRV on a track with data
2. Right click to select a number of notes
3. Once selected right click to bring up the context menu.
4. Only 3 options available all the others are grey out.
5. Hold down the crtl key and right click all options now displayed

This did not happen in X1 or X2 in the PRV however it did in the staff view.

In X3 it does not happen in staff view now which is how I feel it should have always worked and should now work.

This has been reported to Cakewalk support who have reported this as intended.

If this happens for anyone else what do you think is the extra key press an annoyance or an aid to work flow?

Thanks

I just tried this.  Having selected the notes, when I right click it de-selects the notes, which is why the options are greyed out.

In X2, I get no context menu whether ctrl is pressed or not.

In X1, having selected notes with left click, I get no context menu with right click at all, and get full context menu with ctrl+right click

Yes but in X1 and X2 if you right clicked the notes stayed selected and the options were available.  Sorry if I was not clear on that point.

I'm missing something (or something is missing) here...
What do you want to do to those selected notes?
What are the three options not greyed out?

As I said, I didn't get this behaviour when I tried it in X1 or X2.

In X1 the notes stay selected, but no menu appears when I right click.  If     I ctrl+right click, then the context menu appears.

In X2 the notes de-select, but there is no context menu on right click.  Ctrl+right click the notes stay selected, and the context menu appears.

So, basically, in X1 and X2 if you select notes, and right click, you get no context menu at all, whether notes stay selected or not.  At least, that is the behaviour here.

Just got home and tried the steps in the original post, and....I must say I don't like it. I mean, I normally use shortcut keys for these commands so I never realized it, but this isn't good. All the commands on the right-click menu should be accessible (clickable), without press-holding the Ctrl key.

I wonder what the intention is. Did you ask them?

Have you tried this in X1 and X2?  I have, and get no context menu at all unless ctrl is pressed.

So, having three options in X3 is 3 more than X1 and X2.

At least, that is the behaviour I am seeing here.  Am I missing something?

Unfortunately, I uninstalled X1 and X2 (did an OS re-install) so I can't try it in them, but even if what you're saying is true, CW support's answer "as intended" still doesn't make sense, at least to me. I first thought maybe showing the right-click menu would prevent the right-click lasso-selecting from working properly, but in fact, lasso-selecting works fine even when you hold down the Ctrl key. So why are all the commands other than the three grayed out? Is it just half-baked? Am I missing something? Maybe CW support is?

Fortunately I still have X1 and X2 installed and from the quick tests I have just run jb101 is correct in that the right click behaviour is different in both X1, X2 and now X3.  By this I mean each version the right click works in a different way in X2 from X1 and X3 from editor window to editor window.

But the fact that an extra key press is need is most frustrating.

This is how the staff view worked in both X1 and X2, meaning you need to press the ctrl key to get the whole context menu available.  However now in X3 staff view if you lasso notes and then right click all of the context menu is available which is what I always wanted and how it had worked in SONAR 8.5 backwards.

A little bit of continuity between editor windows would be nice or perhaps it is just the deranged ravings of my furry mind.
