Okay, Mr./Ms. Gibson, how about this?
Make Cakewalk open source. Set up a Cakewalk foundation to handle development, donate the source code, and hire some of the original coders to work for and run the foundation. Nice tax write-off there and you'll get a crap-load of good press/PR.
Where's Craig? They didn't toss him out, too, did they? Craig?
...
Craig? You there?
...
Maybe he's already thought of this. Or maybe they've got him tied up promoting Philips smart bulbs?

At least publish the cwp format so competing daw coders can write quick import filters.

Not likely, but it would be a great joy!

There's no way a company is going to give away an asset like Sonar by opening up the source code as there is much proprietary stuff that cost much $$ to create.  Don;t forget, Sonar was WAY ahead of many of the other comapnies with 64 bit engine, off-line mixing, ARA and more.   The tech involved is advanced and it would be dumb for them to give it away.   At some point they will sell it or destroy it.   Companies just don't do this unless it was part of their strategy from the get go.
