Hi,
Will soon build new system with the latest components (i7, SSDs, 32GB, etc...). All this great gear is hard on my budget. So I am looking at shaving cost and wondering if I could do without paying for a graphic card (don't do any games/video/rendering/etc...).
 
Anyone running X2 or X3 on the new Intel HD 4x00 series? Any good/bad experiences or opinions?

Hi,
my box is running with an onboard HD 4000,
no problems here with sonar aso .If you have enough ram 
there is no matter(except you like to play games)to buy a graca.
Benchmarks tests of the Hd 4000 compare this included graca
at the level of the nvidia gtx 630. Journals I read recommend graca´s better than GTx 630 , otherwise they are nearly useless.
I would recommend a bigger ssd(64 or 128 gb) so that your os and your host aso can start and work as fast as possible.

Well, for me I bought a cheap fanless Radeon HD5650. It costs something like 25euros and has the advantage of giving me 2 video outputs to get 2 screens working (a definite plus) and is perfectly silent. Most of time, onboard videos only have one output.
 
 You shouldn't focus on video performance but more on the dual video output thing. A second hand monitor can be quite cheap too..

I can be sure about that since he says:

it seems to be a high end config
There are more than 1 ssd and I just do not see why he would bother with such a tiny ssd.it's even too small to fit windows 7 x64 with a full sonar install+plugins.moreover, the difference between a 32gb or a 64gb ssd is not that big that it should impact his budget.so, the 32gb is logically for ram.

Concerning the graphic card,yes,you won't get better 3d performances.But you'll get 1gb dedicated video memory and 2 Dvi/vga outputs.since sonar do not care about 3d,performances will nearly be the same.the only reason to stick with the internal hd4000 is if the mainboard enables you to plug 2 displays and if you don't care wasting ram for the display(with 32gb, you should not care).yes,there is hdmi,but my experience is that hdmi monitors are more expensive and may lead to weird functioning.
so,personally,I would buy a "cheesy" and cheap (25euros) fanless video card with 2 dvi/vga outputs.sonar is so much pleasant with 2 screens.And I wouldn't say a Radeon hd6450 is cheesy.

Yeah... I doubt someone putting together a relatively high-end system today would opt for a 32GB SSD.  Plus, he did write SSD followed by 32GB as opposed to 32GB SSD. 
 
And +1 on having a dedicated graphics card, if nothing else for dual (or more!) monitors.  I'm running a relatively old Q9300 but would not want to give up my dual 24" Viewsonics.   And if I had a newer and higher end system, I would want at least the same.   Screen real estate is a wonderful thing!

Sorry bout the confusion re: my system config, I didn't want to bother you with details. Indeed I will get 3 SSD drives (all the newest Samsung 840 EVO - they absolutely BLAST other SSDs). I will have one for OS/software, one for audio and one for VSTs - with sizes to be probably 256/500/500GB).
 
I also didn't mention that I want to run two (hopefully touch) 23" screens. So I do appreciate the tip to double check that my motherboard has two outs. I will also check the Radeon HD6450 as per your recommendation (particularly that every part of my system will be fanless).

The radeon was just an example.just to say you can find fanless graphics cards for 25-30euros, with two outputs and that it will work very well with 2 screens.either nvidia or amd.,.nvidia boards may be interesting too because of cuda,since some plugins can be cuda enabled..of course it won't match a big 3d card,but you don't need 3d,,,

I agree that it is better to have a graca, but a cheapy one , I say "can", not must, slower down a box.
The op had now explained what he meant by 32 gb..........
He did,nt write anything about what...  :ssd´s,ram, or stars in the sky.
A real lol is imo building  a box with high-end components and a 25 Euro graca .

Yes, a high end pc with 25euros video card,it's weird. But that's the magic of custom made pcs, you can trim them to fit your needs and since 3D is of no use, there's no point in spending more. Moreover,it's always possible to buy a new and more powerful video card when either when budget is there or when more power is needed. That's why I always prefer to build my own desktop pcs instead of buying an already built one.
 
Lol is not an argument,I agree.it's just the expression of the fact I found it funny.no disrespect in that.
