On a real bass, I would probably try cloning the track.  Then putting some extreme compression on it and play with EQ until it exaggerates that sound.  I would then volume envelope the areas that I want to hear the effect and raise the levels of that cloned track until it is just barely heard in the mix.

You should try out that multiband compressor trick. Mr Anderton showed that one in one of the X1 Advanced Workshop vids for guitar and it's really cool. I'm thinking it would work even better for bass because you can work on 4 (or 5?) different parts of the signal independently.

I intend to use it a lot now that I am aware of it. Unfortunately it means having that power hog of a plug on multiple tracks but it could be frozen once the bands have been isolated.

hmm... All the weird juggling with the synth versions they've done over the past few years sure is confusing. I ain't complaining because I think I have all the really good ones at full capacity (I think).

If this is the case though it makes me feel a little better about springing for the Production Suite. I thought I had basically burned myself for a hundred bucks because of all the extras they bundled with X2.

Indeed you are correct. The Zeta 2 synth came included in the Production suite along with the pro channel gate. It was the Zeta-2 that made me go with that upgrade path.

I keep asking this and I know scook has answered me multiple times but I always forget. Did that Expander/Gate get included in X2? I'm not even sure how valuable that has been to me. I'm sure I've used it but because I was just starting out all the modules just kind of were there. I didn't know what was what or if I was using something unique.

Either way just knowing that I got something extra that I HAVE and will continue to use (Zeta + 2 particularly for the Alembic patch) makes me feel better about choosing the Suite.

When I was looking at the packages I didn't know what was what and I figured I'd better just spend the extra $100 to get any extras I may need. I did however think that meant I was getting EVERYTHING and was disappointed once I realized there were still a pile of modules missing form the package. They however amount to a couple hundred extra bucks so I guess that's alright. The Concrete Limiter would have been a very useful and logical addition to that suite though but I guess Boost 11 is supposed to cover that need.

Meh.

I like the Scarbee Jay Bass samples.  They have a real nice slap with some fret sound.  Not sure if it is what you are looking for, but they have several basses in the Scarbee line.  Each has many articulations available.  IMHO the sampled sounds still beat the synths.

Who purchased Sonar X1 Producer before the suite was made available, had to buy all the prochannels, Z3TA+2 upgrades, etc. to make it turn into Sonar X1 expanded with all the features of the suite.

Ouch. That's pretty brutal. I'd imagine that probably added at least a couple hundred bucks to your Cake tab. :-/
