  • Midi drums slowing down on loop playback

Hi,

I've had this before, and for the life of me I cant remember what I did to fix it.

Superior Drums is slowing down after each cycle of a loop on playback. It's doing my head in. Its the only midi track in the project.

Any thoughts please?

You can try these things;
1. Maybe set the snap to grid so each loop point starts and ends on a measure
2. Maybe you need to have devote more ram to Superior drums
3. Maybe you could freeze Superior drums
4. Maybe raise your ASIO buffers or WDM slider.
5. Maybe you can raise the playback buffers to 512 or 256 or 1024, depending on what you have it set to now.

These are some of the things I would try, if my Superior drums where doing what you are describing.

Thanks CJ,

I was already in max asio buffers, playback buffers at 512 and tried others. Snap to grid loop points didn't work. I've allocated more ram to SD.

Sadly non of the above helped.

I've had to resort to freezing SD.

I don't really like to, incase I want to make any as adjustments to the midi. It takes too long to refreeze. But obviously this has cured the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Does the same thing happen with a new instance of SD or in a new project?

I haven't had chance to check yet Steve, but I'll check tomorrow.

The project in question is quite large by my standards with quite a lot of Prochannel and bus effects so Im wondering if that has something to do with it.

I presume you're running 64-bit Superior, so there's no Bitbridge involved, right? I've never been able to reproduce this issue in a significant way , but others have said that turning on the Playback metronome (and running it to a muted bus so you don't have to hear it) can cure this.

Maybe lowering the buffers may help. Too high of a ASIO buffer setting can effect playback

I thought this issue was fixed in X3? It was a known issue and the workaround is indeed turning on the playback metronome and muting it as brundlefly said. I haven't come across it yet in X3 but then again it didn't always happen before.

I should mention, too, that the one time I was able to reproduce this (with loop boundaries not on beats, and it taking 100+ iterations to get significantly out of sync), switching from 48 to 44.1kHz sample rate cured it.

Sory been away all day,

Thanks for the comments.

Yup, 64bit SD.

So, use metronome...OK i'll try that.
Lower my buffers.....I'll try that.

Off to try now.
